Ebay sellers question

I have not bought any of those cheap grab bags full of pins, if that is what you mean, but the singles I have gotten so far (all at prices you would expect them to be) have been legit. I think it depends what you are after, who the seller is, their feedback, if the price smells fishy, have they sold a rare pin over and over, etc.. I've only bought new-in-package pins so far, I don't think I'd even bother trusting loose pins unless I knew more about the seller first.

For the most part- prob not-

best thing to do is if you are looking for individual pins- do a completed listing search- if it comes up more often than average and or from the same people- beware..

Lots- check their completed listings- if they repeat the same pictures over and over or sell more than 2 of the same thing then beware.. I havent listed any 'trader lots' simply as I dont want to play in 'that sandbox'

but keep an eye out for people like me who are slowly selling off collections... Ive found by looking at someones completed auctions if you can tell a pattern (all pins are approx the same time frame- or same theme) usually thats a sign of someone selling off a collection.. Also feel free to ask questions about auctions- I know I welcome it and have sent pics of the pack of the pins or explained how it came to be in my ownership before and have offered my dizpins and dpf references before as proof 'im not new to the game'

Very good point here! I never used to bother contacting sellers to talk about their listings until I got into this pin collecting stuff, now I've had some really good experiences communicating with a few, and it really helps ease the mind. I've also avoided a seller because of lack of communication as well.

I'm not sure how I feel about using ebay now.

(I hope I don't get lynched for admitting to this but..) I have bought several grab bags before from different sellers. I knew they were fake but I kind of saw it as a ''everyone's doing it'' kind of thing so why not save some money. I've been collecting since 2008 and then started buying grab bags in 2009. I've been looking over my collection and I have a lot of worthless crap. Not just pins I've bought, but ones I've traded for in the parks that are obviously fake (now that I know more about pins now!)

I plan on only buying pins now and trading with people I trust and I may give my scrappers away to friends kids or just end up leaving them in storage or something.

I wouldn't be able to spot a 'good fake' so I really don't know if I'm going to continue to used ebay or not.

Thanks for your help :)

Everyone makes mistakes and it's easy to see the appeal of cheap prices, especially when you don't know any better.

It's very nice that you've decided to stop with that stuff and get into the real good side of pin trading now!

Honestly, whatever you do, just don't put the scrappers back out there... I mean if the kids you are talking about giving them to would only use them for fun and not trade them away, I see no problem with that, but otherwise I'd just say dump them in storage or toss them out. The less that are out there, the better for the community!

I'm no expert on scrappers and such, but I've had pretty good luck with getting pins on ebay. I've never bought a grab bag lot of pins though. Just individual pins. Always check their feedback. If someone gave them a bad rating for selling a fake pin, don't bid.

There are good sellers out there. It is usually best if you ask people here who have been around for a while. If you have a question about a particular seller ask questions about them also.
