Hey guys, I'm new to pin trading and to start off I decided to order a grab bag of 25 pins off of what I thought was a legit website that only sold authentic pins. However after I received them I noticed some issues with a couple. I read the guide/thread here about scrappers or counterfeits but I'm still lost. I was wondering if one of you more experienced traders can identify and figure out if the pins I received are fake or not. I won't be stating who and where I got them from out of respect just in case I am wrong.

Sorry if it's a bit hard to tell in the second picture, but what I'm pretty much trying to point out is that the Mickey print doesn't go all the way to the edge, but there also isn't a border. I remember reading somewhere that if there is no border around the entire mine and the Mickey print isn't all the way out, it doesn't mean that it's fake but rather just a misprint or error. Is this true? The edges are btw smooth so no jagged edges or bad colors from what I can tell. Let me know if you guys need more pictures! Thank you !

I would say that it is not authentic. It would help if you could show the glare on the pin since a lot of non-authentic pins are dull instead of glossy.

Looks like a scrapper to me. And honestly I don't know of any website that sells authentic grab bags of pins. Members here sell them as well as in the facebook groups, but buying online unless it's from the Disney Store is very tricky.

That's just my two cents.

To get cheaper traders I browse the sale threads and can find some really good deals there.

Good luck trading!!!

The authentic pins from this series have no borders around the edges of the pins. Yours has the border and I would say is fake. Try to get your money back.

I thought this would be the case unfortunately. I could've been worse and all of them could've been fake, but it was only about half that are similar to this one. Thanks guys! I'll keep my eyes open for any more grab bags available here on the forum since i am looking to purchase another soon!

be careful. Due to the fact that you are new to ID-ing fakes, you almost for sure have more fakes than you know about. You can not look for just one thing wrong with your pins. There is many things that you need to look for and some are harder to see than others. My advice is to read and learn all you can. If you need help or have questions there are a few members that are real good at judging real or fake pins.

also I would suggest you return all the pins you got. Its almost a sure thing that many more if not all are bad. Sorry for the crappy news. We have all been there at one time. You will learn as you go as we all did.
Take care and best of luck to you.

Well from what I myself can see if that not all are fakes. I've been comparing them to authentic pins that I bought at disneyland and I can tell how much more polished some are than others. However the ones that seem real are hidden mickey pins and other less desirable ones. Of course all of the more appealing pins are the ones that look much less glossy and shiny from the back. The weight of all of them seem about the same compared to authentic pins and the colors aren't bad at all. The glossiness an shine that the pins lack gives it away almost immediately now. And obviously the ones with the off center mickey print/no print on edges aren't real either. I'll most likely be handing a majority of the pins that are scrappers to my younger brother who will just most likely pin them onto his school backpack and I'll keep the 5 or so that are real. Thanks again guys! Learning more and more by the hour while searching the forums!

sounds good. just trying to help a little. Many times real pins have had bad color or less shine. that's not a way to find all fakes. Also almost all fake pins will be HM or other low end pins. Its easier to pass them off and or sell the for cheap. If you want to know for sure. You can post the five real ones and everyone will help you. One trick I use is sound. The fake HMs usually make a different noise when you tap them on something like a tile bar or what not. Kind of like in the old times. Cash registers had a slab of marble n them, so the worker could tap the coin and hear if it was real.

Hmmmm interesting, I'll maybe post them up later just to be sure. Carry around a slab of marble on my lanyard too haha. Thank you!
