I went to Disney for the first time with my grandfather and cousins wayyyyy back in the early 2000's. and while i did not begin pin collecting then (that would be three years later with my grandma and sister) my grandfather purchased this ball cap with mickey playing golf on it. Nothing crazy or unusual. the man wore a lot of hats (figuratively and literally). fast forward 20 years to 2022 and he passes away. his hat collection got divided between his grandchildren and i chose his mickey play golf hat.
I wear it for special occasions but it primarily is a wall ornament cuz im terrified of losing it and with my ADHD that is a pretty sure thing to happen.
and then I was shopping on black friday. came across a new second hand pin site where the owners seem to be going through THEIR grandfathers collection and I stumble across THE PIN. Mickey playing golf. a near one-to-one of the hat. Obviously made at the same time. On instinct i purchased it and it now resides on said hat. a match made in heaven (maybe literally) and now it feels like my collection is blessed by my late grandfather and yes im crying.

Just. His wife, my grandmother has dementia and its been increasingly difficult to know if we're taking care of her in a way that would make him happy/proud. and thanksgiving was especially hard. so to find this pin when I did just feels like a sign.

miss you opa. glad to have a piece of you with me.

What a wonderful pin find and a special 'angel wink' from your grandfather. I think the fact that your care and worry about how he'd feel in regards to your grandmother's care already means that you're a caring amazing person who's doing right by her. I strongly recommend alzconnected.org the support community and forums there were a HUGE help for me not only in navigating the disease, but in feeling a lot less alone on the hard days, because they can't all be good.
