Has anyone attempted to compile a comprehensive scrapper/counterfeit database?

It seems there is lots of information out there about which pins are being scrapped/counterfeited. But, the information is scattered, and often incomplete.

It takes a lot of time scouring the various forum threads on the subject. And PinPics and pintradingdb seem to be lagging in their listings.

Has anybody tried to put together a central database, updated frequently, on such pins?

This sounds like a cool idea. It surely wouldhelp new guys like me to have some point of reference.

I would think that it would still require a database of pins since most scrappers or counterfeits are based on real pins

Yes, several years ago, I created a Blogger website, where I went through and saved all the pictures I could find and listed their Pinpics numbers. And then tried to go through and group them by type. In theory, you can enter a Pinpics number into the Search box and if the pin has appeared on an image of scrapped/counterfeit pins it will bring up the blog post with the image and a link (if it is still functional to the original place I found the image). But it seems like if I had made a typo and then had to edit it some searches don't return the list even though a pin is listed. There are 2066-ish pins listed.

I posted about it when I finished. No one seemed to care much because I don't have images of the differences between good and bad pins. I live in CO, so it's impossible to do that.

I have more images that I need to load, but it takes a lot of work, and personal issues in 2014 & 2015 kept me away from working on it. I also want to go back and list pins sold by specific Ebay sellers (I have about 5 that I'm actively tracking). I have been saving them every couple of months, because most pins aren't posted in images on a Chinese Marketplace anymore, and simply show up on Ebay.

Wow, thanks for the hard work on that. Too bad we couldn't all help update the PinPics database with the latest on which pins are being scrapped. For my purposes, pictures of "good" vs "bad" pins are not necessary. I would simply want to know which pins I need to be especially careful about when buying on the secondary market.

When PinPics was under its original ownership, the whole community kept it up to date literally hourly. Then the new ownership alienated most of the major contributors by trying to claim ownership and make money off what the community had contributed. At which point many of those people stopped contributing information and images. Which leaves PinPics the incomplete, inaccurate site it has become. A loss for the community, but it is what it is.
