OK, I did something today that I never thought to try until today and wanted some feedback if you would have done the same

I have been trying to get any or all of some older Star Wars Logo pins, either individually or as the set they were released in.

It's a box set, and so it would be a mutli pin trade to say the least, LOL. When I search on PinPics, it shows 3 people have the box set, and in turn one has an e-mail address. Well when I compare that person's wants to my trades and vice versa, it shows he wants 6 pins I have, and he has 9 pins I want, of which 5 are these Star Wars pins. So I try to do a trade request for the box set, but it does not show the pins from his want list as ones I can trade for it, which seemed odd to me.

So I took it upon myself to use the e-mail address he had listed on his profile to e-mail him directly and I apologized for contacting him directly, explained the glitch I was seeing, and then asked if he thought we could work something out.

Would you have done the same? Have you? If people list their e-mail address on the profile, are they looking to be contacted like that, for legit trade requests. PinPics lists this disclaimer on the page with his e-mail address:

The information below is provided to assist you in TRADING pins, and should NOT be used to solicit sales or auctions. Please see our Terms of Use: pin selling is NOT ALLOWED on Pin Pics!

I always try to email people directly when I can and I would say 4 out of 5 times, we were able to work out a trade. Most of the time I just email saying that I'm interested in <insert pin> and ask if there's anything in my trades list they are interested in. If not, can they give me an idea of what they would want so I can try to find it. I was able to get one my holy grails that way! I didn't have anything on her wants list but she told me what she would feel comfortable trading for it so I was able to find it. I was so happy because she was the only person on PinPics trading it and I have never seen it on eBay yet.

Well, I had someone e-mail me directly (based on my e-mail listed in pinpics) saying "you have a lot of really great pins, how much are you asking for them?" *Since selling is NOT what my trader pins are all about, I just ignored the request.

I've not tried to use the trader assistant because I don't have a whole lot of traders, but the trade I am working on in pinpics I contacted them through email.

I have been contacted before this way and have completed a trade a few times. sometimes it is easier to trade this way as you can list what you have of their wants and your wants which they have makes it easier to "level the playing field especially if you are willing to trade multiples.

I have done that when I really want the pin they have and my traders are not ones that I would think were acceptable. I contact them and let me know that I'm very interested in trading for their pin and what would they accept. Only had one positive response, but I keep trying. Nothing ventured, nothing gained (as my Mom said).

I have done this as well. I cant recall the outcome, as I trade/sell/buy mostly on DPF as I know the people here and feel more comfortable.

No one has ever responded badly to me though, that I do know. :-)

List the set you are looking for and maybe someone on DPF here has it and would consider trading or selling it!

It's a great group of people here!!!!

I've done this too and the few times I've done it, I've had fairly good luck. I wouldn't be upset at anyone if they contacted me directly either. Sometimes it's nice to have that "human" touch instead of being contacted by a system. If you know what I mean.

I just completed a pin trade through Pinpics using direct email. It was very successful. I happened to have three pins they wanted and they they had three I wanted. I presented the email with the specific trade requests.

Good luck!

Ive done this numerous times I find it alot quicker and easier to get your point across in sending a direct email rather than trying to send a trade request with only that 60 character message through pinpics. Ive had alot of positive trades doing it this way.

I always add an apology just in case the user finds that I am being rude by contacting directly but Ive never had anyone say otherwise when I have.

If it is a pin i REALLY want then yes, I contact as many of the traders listed as possible. That's how I got my Snow White POMH! I didn't have any matches that I thought would make a fair trade so I contacted the traders listed to see if I had anything they would accept in return, and listed my harder to find traders and it ended in a successful trade! :D
I wouldn't be annoyed if someone contacted me directly! In fact I would be more inclined to make a trade just because the other person made more of an effort than is made using the TA so they may want the pin more!
