Hi everyone,

Been lurking here for a few weeks now and wanted to say hi.

I’m fairly new to pin trading and have been buying pins I find interesting on my trips over the last few years and only have a small collection. But, I am now looking to get more into it!

I’m a huge Star Wars fan so will probably start with some blind box sets to get some complete sets going.

Looking for tips on how to start to grow my collection and any other stuff that may be useful. Excited to be here and talk with everyone!

Howdy from Texas! There's a bunch of fun people who live in the NE area with some amazing pin trading events going on over the summer. I believe a few posters are in the events tab already so make sure to check that out. Folks sell and trade and are very welcoming at those events.

If I was starting out fresh, I would definitely look at places like BoxLunch and Hot Topic (either in store or online) for some fun affordable pins to start out with. Those retailers do sell licensed pins that are highly tradeable. If you're looking for at price pickups from Disneyland and Disney World, I suggest Enchanted Pins and More on Instagram. Her name is Connie (different from the lovely Connie here on the Forum) but she does at cost pick ups for a bunch of the mystery pins and merch for Disneyland, WDW, and Disneyland Paris! I highly recommend her services.

Which Star Wars characters do you enjoy the most? I would recommend focusing on those characters first to add to your collection. I think we do have some SW fans here so people would love to see your collection (me included). Happy Trading and feel free to message if you ever have questions; always happy to help with info!

That’s super cool, I didn’t know there were events around here. Thanks for letting me know!

I also didn’t know that pins were sold in places like that, there is a BoxLunch near me so may need to start to frequent there. I do go down to WDW often but not enough to collect a lot of stuff so nice to know I can do stuff around here. I’ll keep in mind the info for pick ups.

My favorite is R2-D2 for sure, I also enjoy C-3PO and Han Solo. If I’m going with Jedi, Obi-Wan. I picked blue Kyber crystal because he has a blue saber.

Thanks again for all the info I really appreciate it!

Welcome to DPF!

I collect some Star Wars pins. Had to focus/limit the collection, as collecting all Star Wars would be a lot. My favorites: Droids (all droids), Leia and Rey (powerful women - a theme in my collections as I also collect Maleficent and Moana), and Porgs (I am 3 away from being complete to the known Porg pins - per the pin databases.)

@dznycrzyfmly is spot on about pin trading in your area. DPF member @collycon is from Mass. I am sure there are others. There is a camping pin trading event coming up in May in New England (maybe in Mass?) I need to get that one on our DPF calendar. NYC traders have a variety of events around NYC.

Pinandpop is holding one of their events starting this Friday. Even if you are not ready to trade on Pinandpop this weekend, I suggest checking it out, so you can get an idea on how their online PTEs work. We also have a discussion threads where you could ask questions about pinandpop. Here is the link to the thread for this coming weekend:

There is so much everyone will want to share, so please explore and reach out with questions. We love to help.

Thank you for the detailed response! Seems like such a great community to be a part of. I’m going to start paying attention to the events just to learn about them.

I’m thinking starting a droids collection as well seems fun!

Oh we love Droids in this house! Sweet, I hope your BoxLunch treats you right (psst, there's also pin trading in stores now too). Have a lot of fun looking at all the fun possibilities!
