Hi everyone.

So, I need some help. I'm not sure if my mail is lost or just taking a long time or maybe I was scammed? The trader seems on the up and up though so I suspect it is the post office. The trader is active on Facebook and when I searched their name I saw no scammer warning posts about them, only their posts and trades with other members. They are also part of an active scammer prevention community. They sent me a photo of a printed label with my address on it and the tracking number. My pin I sent has reached them safely, they let me know a day ago or so.

Below is a screen shot of the tracking. As you can see, it was shipped on the 7th of this month and was supposed to have gotten here (San Diego) on Thursday. However, today (Sunday) it has not made any updates since it was sent to a sorting facility in Louisiana on the 10th. That is FIVE days of inactivity.

Is it lost? If it is lost, what can I do? I'll ask if they insured it I suppose. Can I call the post office and ask them to look for it on Monday, see if the package got left in the back of a truck or bag or something?

I'll be very disappointed if it is lost :( Not only will have lost a great LE 100 Stitch trader, but I will not get the pin I traded for, a LE 150 King Triton from the UK boxed set, not an exactly easy pin to find.

It's not a scam since they obviously mailed the package. If there's no movement/tracking update by tomorrow night, why not ask the other trader to go to the post office where it was dropped off and ask them to see if they can find it in the system?

I just went through this myself. I would say the post office screwed it up. For me they said that the sender had the wrong zip code on the package. Of course when I received the package the zip code was correct. Which tells me the post office screwed something up and sent it to the wrong place. I once had a package come from California and it was supposed to just come up the coast to Seattle. For some reason the package took the scenic route through New York. So you see if the person doing the incoding screws it up it could take a while.

Don't panic!!!

Yes, I'm certainly not inclined to think it's a scam either. The trader has been communicative and great so far and as you said, it's been shipped. The only reason I brought up scam was I know some scammers are very crafty with shipping labels so I thought on the off chance someone knew of this pattern as being a scam I'm unfamiliar with they could fill me in. It's probably just good 'ol fashion postal error, haha. My mother used to be a manager of a postal annex so I know how crazy it can get behind the scenes there.

I have FB messaged the trader and asked them if they would mind talking to their post office for me. I will call the post office as well but, being out of state and no in person I think my chances would't be as great of getting some help.

It's just annoying because it couldn't have been ANY of my other trades that, while it still would have stunk, could have easily been replaced (recently released PTDs). No, it HAD to be the UK LE 150 pin from a box set I was SUPER excited about and is a bit pricier and harder to track down. Just the way of things I suppose. Aw, well, there are worse things :) Hopefully I can get some answers on Monday from a post office or better yet, it will just mysteriously show up! :D

You must have posted just as I did! Yes I've heard some doozies with the post office. Hopefully eventually they will find it and send it on it's merry way to me.

Post office in and out of California is VERY SLOW. I had a priority package (which the label printed out as 2 days) take 5 business days (not including weekends) to get from CA to FL...if it was going to take that long, I would have shipped it first class. Same thing with packages coming into CA, it seems to take a very long time.

The post office no longer tracks every where it stops, unfortunately. Since you have the label number, you can call 1-800-ASK-USPS to find out what's taking the package so long. They can tell you the zip code that it is going to as well.

The Post Office has lost it's mind! A couple of weeks ago, I had a pin take a full week to go from Orlando to near Tampa!!!! First class. Handed over the counter and weighed by them!!! It is unacceptable! So, it takes a week to go less than 60 miles one way. I can't imagine how long it's going to take now to go across the US!!!

Probably 2 days.

I normally don't have issues with the post office. A couple questionable segways once in awhile. I did have one package get delivered to my neighbor once and thankfully thy brought it over to me. But this one just up and disappeared. Sigh. I do hope they are able to track it down. I'll just have to hope for the best when I call tomorrow.

Earlier this month it took ten days for a small LBE to travel from OH to CA. The only tracking info available until the delivery scan in CA was the Acceptance scan in OH. I think the lackof tracking scans was due to the fact that the tracking label was placed on the back of the LBE.

My package from CA to OH took 7 days to get there. The tracking label was on the front of the package and there was lots of tracking activity. But it took at least four days for the package to leave CA.

18 months ago I routinely saw 2-day transit time between CA and the east coast.

I've shipped a lot of first class packages in the last few months, and I've seen a lot if inexplicable delays in the last few weeks. Something strange is happening with the mail and it's not just in certain regions. I would give it at least another week or two before asking your partner to contact the post office. Lost package claims can't be made until 30+ days from the time the package is sent, so it's unlikely that the post office will have an answer until more time has passed. More than likely, your package will arrive in the next few days. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the input guys! It's just frustrating not knowing. If I had certainly it would arrive, just take awhile, I could totally be patient. It's just that 'oh no what if it's lost' feeling that's driving me up the wall. I know I'm being paranoid. It helps getting perspective from everyone that it will likely get here eventually and that the mail has been acting up for others.

This happens to me a lot with my dozy local post office. It may be stuck in sorting or neglected to be scanned. Call the post office as suggested above and if your post office is anything like mine, opening a inquiry - you'll get a case number with USPS during the phone call - is enough to light a fire under butts and get a package to you soon. I wouldn't lose hope on it being lost just yet. :) Best of luck!

So I have an update. I called the post office and talked to customer service. I gave him the tracking number and my address. He said that my apartment number was never input into the system and that is why it is delayed. I think that's weird though becuase I would think it would still come to San Diego then run into trouble with delivery, not never leave the Louisiana sorting facility. In the past, packages without the apt number have been delivered to the main apt office. He said 'uh oh' when I gave my address/tracking though so is suspect he saw something that flagged an issue. He gave me a case ID, opened an inquiry, and told me someone would call after trying to locate package withing 48 hours. I'm excited they at looking for it, though sad because I feel like that means something has in fact go awry. Hopefully the little guy is just chugging along on its way to me. The postal worker said he sent out an update alert to add the apt number to the package. I'm checking with the main apt office just in case it got delivered there and never scanned.

In more positive news, my trade from France arrived today! PTN Da Shrimp will be waiting for me when I get home from work! And tomorrow I am sending out 4 great trades :) I'll just hope for the best with lil'lostie.

That does seem odd. It's not like the address without the apartment number doesn't exist at all.

Good news! Whatever the postal worker did, he lit a fire under them! I woke up this morning to 4 tracking updates throughout the night, an updated estimated day of delivery (they changed it from last Thursday to today) and just an hour ago I got a text that it was out for delivery :D

So glad they found it and, it looks like, over-nighted it. Now I just have fingers crossed it doesn't get lost in the last leg here becasue of the apt number mix up, but everything appears to be on track!

I'm really pleasantly surprised! I thought the post office would fight me on it and claim it was just delayed but they spotted whatever the problem was with the postage and rectified it withing 24 hours. Faith renewed in the USPS!

I literally have found every time I've called a stalled domestic package, they calmly give me a case number and have it to me within 24 hours. It's weird! You think it'll be a nightmare but they suddenly just solve it. I assume someone was being a bit lazy along the way and they scoot it along once they know someone is calling after it. ;) Beautiful pin - I'm glad you got it!
