How do you handle "bad" trades?

Some context here: I recently made a trade for a pin that PinPics suggests may have fakes circulating. I specifically told the other trader that I would only agree to the trade if she was pretty certain her pin was authentic. I know mine was, because I purchased it off the rack at DLR. The other trader was pretty sure her pin was authentic. We completed the trade, and I received an obvious counterfeit. I'm sure of this because I have another legitimate copy of the same pin; the differences are GLARING (as I get the time, I may post side-by-side pics in a counterfeit pin thread; the differences between the pins are obvious!).

I don't necessarily blame the other trader. I truly believe the trade was made in good faith; I have no reason to believe otherwise. However, if I were to have sent somebody a fake pin, I would want to know about it! I would want to offer to "reverse" the trade to "make it good", or at least offer to send a replacement. I would do this because I want to be known as an honorable trader, and I don't want to risk anybody having a bad experience with me.

To be honest, it would not be worth it to me to pay another round of postage to "reverse" the trade. They are rack pins afterall, no huge loss.

How would you handle it? Do I say something to the other trader, or do I ignore it? (Again, I'd want to know if I were the other party to this).

Cheers, BilgeRat

Definitely let the other trader know that they sent a non authentic pin. They may not know but you should educate them. I agree the postage is too high to re-trade. If they ignore you give them bad feedback so the next person does not have the same thing happen to them.

I would want to know and make you whole again. it is often hard to know if something is not legit if you don't have the real and the not real to compare. I would want info on how I could have or should have known so hopefully it wouldn't happen again.

I agree with pnjjrose- I would want to know and have the opportunity to make a good trade with you. I still have some trouble with non-authentic pins unless there is some obvious difference with pinpics description.

As one of the old timers here and on pinpics I still miss counterfeit pins sometimes. It can happen to anybody. If I am the one that sent out the bad pin, I surely want to know about it to make it right! I don't want any trader with a bad taste in their mouths from trading with me. I will more then likely want to trade with them again. If I am the one who received the bad pin I want to let them know to see what kind of a trader they are. If they want to make it right then I know I want to trade with them again, if not I know I want to avoid them.
