:wiggle:How To Guide: using pinpic’s search engine:wiggle:

:banghead: Kind of annoying isn’t it? Seeing all those category’s you can check mark… You use it, and you still get a gazillion unrelated search results. So lets talk about those filters shall we?

:coffee:Before you get started hunting for pins on pinpic’s, you need to make sure your profile settings are correct. My profile is set to Disney pins, Disney pin accessories, and Disney pin prototypes. I have a fairly fast and successful search method, and I hope this post helps you!

Very important!!! Make sure you spell correctly in the search engine. Tinker Bell, not tinkerbell, Maleficent, Not malificent etc..... It does not appear to be case sensitive.

In advanced search, you have category filters first. These cover the types of pins you are hunting for. Some of them are of almost no assistance.

:like:The only ones I really use are:

  • Dangle
  • Hinged
  • Jewel
  • Slider
  • Stained glass

:bigthumb:I heavily utilize the pin origins filters. Those are incredibly helpful. DLR/DCA, WDW, DLRP, DSF, WDI… all very useful.

:DNow, when writing words into the search engine, the less common a word is, the better the search will work. Utilize less common words.

:nono:Words to avoid:

  • Mickey, it can be for hidden Mickey, Mickey pins, Mickey icons.
  • In fact, Stitch is actually a bad word for the search engine as well, because you get the character AND any pin that has "stitching" on it.... Go figure.
  • Disney, it is on almost EVERY description of EVERY pin in the database folks…..
  • Pin, also in almost every description.
  • Dates, years, numbers, and edition size qty, are rarely helpful.

:donald:Example, pin # 1234:

  • Use the words Kodak, Drum.
  • Do not use Donald, Blue, hat.
  • You do not need any filters for this pin. But if you did, “set, or part of†might work well.

:cool:Example, pin # 87706:

  • Use the words Sword, piece, movie
  • Do not use Disney, film, stone.
  • Utilize filter for limited edition only if you like, but even without the filter, only 3 pins came up.

I hope these examples help. And if you have questions about this topic by all means ask. I can always edit and add to this post!

Psycho Pixie you are just such a beast when it comes to writing all these guides! So helpful! THANKS X 1,000,000 :bigthumb:
