Hi all!

My name is Bailey (she/her) and while I’m originally from TX I’m currently in PA and about to relocate to NYC next year!

I’ve been a long time small collector of pins that had special meaning to me when I visit the parks but have recently jumped into full blown vintage collecting

My current collections are
-Sorcerer Mickey (I don’t love fantasia but I love fantasmic and he is so cute?!)
-Chip n dale (but if I must choose one, then chip is king)
-Winnie the Pooh
-Attractions/Park themed
-Hercules
-Pins with gimmicks (spinners, hinges, sliders)
- and of course I’m a sucker for anything I have nostalgia for but these are def secondary ( BATB, dumbo, aristocats, Ratatouille, sword and the stone)

I’m really excited to join the forum and the pin trading community. I already have 1 trade under my belt on pin pics (and a double one at that! Please hold the applause). I feel pretty okay about online trading but I’m absolutely scared to go to my first in person event next weekend! It all seems so intimidating. Also! For the more seasoned traders, do you keep every pin that fits into your collected category, or do you ever trade them off? I’m so new I find I’m resistant to trading off anything in my most coveted categories, but maybe that softens with time?

Anyways thanks for allowing me to be apart of this! I can’t wait to be able to start trading amongst you all

Howdy! NYC is going to be such a fun adventure!
There are definitely collectors who try to get every pin that fits their collection. But not everyone does that. I collect Chip & Dale like you do, but I pass on pins of them that I don't think are particularly cute, and have traded away some that I just didn't love.

Hi there, and welcome! Good luck with your upcoming move!

Those are some great collections! (I also prefer Chip over Dale )

To answer your question - once I have a pin in my collection I have a very hard time letting it go, as well. Many of my collections are "completist" collections - trying to get everything in the category versus select pins that fit the category - so that makes it near-impossible to get rid of something! But every few years or so I review my collections to see if 1, do I want it to remain completist or am I ok with paring it down; and 2, do I even enjoy collecting it any more? Is the hassle of trying to find pins that fit a certain collection outweigh the joy I get in having it? Do I still want to dedicate my limited resources to that specific collection or do I want to put them towards something I enjoy more? And that helps me decide if I want to keep a collection as-is, trim it down, or trade/sell it entirely.

Welcome to the forum!
(And advanced welcome to Metro NY.)

In answer to your question, I have been collecting pins for 25 years and have yet to trade a single one out of my collection. Even for ones I don't really collect any longer. But I'm a bit of a pack rat in general.

I’m happy to know I’m not the only one with a preference for chip! You have some really good questions here, I guess I’m not a completionist by any means, there are munk pins I pass on.. but maybe the idea of a somewhat annual review of the ones I’m holding onto will be helpful to make sure I’m not keeping pins just for the sake of it. And I’m sure I’ll come across new stuff that will make me willing to give up some of the old from time to time!

I could definitely see myself having a tendency to keep far more pins that make it into the “mine only” and being reluctant to give them up. It’s good to know I’m in good company!
