'Bumping' is just pushing a thread back up to the top - without adding any constructive content to it - with the sole purpose of bringing it back to the top/front page. For this reason, we limit 'bumping' to once a day. While 'bumping' usually is associated with sales/trades/auction threads, it can be used with any thread.

That being said, any new post in a thread acts as a 'bump' and brings it back to the top/front page. While answering a genuine/legitimate inquiry in a thread serves the same purpose as a 'bump' (bringing the post to the top/front page), it doesn't count as a 'bump' because it contributes new information to the thread.
