Information From WDW Regarding Counterfeits, Scrappers, Etc.
Hi All,
This may have been covered before and if so I apologize in advance. I contacted WDW a couple of weeks ago regarding the sheer volume of bad pins out there. A representative was kind enough to call me today and go over my concerns. We had a nice long talk and here are the salient points:
I'm not condoning or making judgement on the discussion although I'm sorely tempted - just relaying what was said.
In essence traders - we're on our own. If anyone has purchased bad pins I implore you to report them directly to WDW legal. I know this is hard as I for one will never purchase any more lots from eBay and only spend my money on particular pins I want thus making my supply of traders dwindle. It's up to us to try to stop the bad pin circulation or at least attempt to make a dent in it - and I know that has been stated before. I did feel bad for the rep as she seemed genuinely unaware of how many bad pins are on eBay and she was very nice and apologetic about not being able to be of more help.
If anyone has suggestions or would like more information regarding the call please feel free to contact me or add to this post.

- WDW legal feels the pins sold on eBay are the responsibility of eBay to police and enforce. WDW legal takes no action unless specifically notified with relevent information.
- They feel the security and quality control in China is adequate to the task and have no plans to relocate the manufacturing to the USA
- They feel the bigger issue is the people in the USA who purchase the pins as opposed to the people in China pipelining the pins in.
- She said (and I am trying to be very accurate on this) "Short of discontinuing the pins altogether Disney has no way of controlling the issue."
- They feel the level of bad pins on the market is "acceptable" and many of the other items made are also counterfeited.
- She stated the pin issue is beyond the control of WDW.
