Hi,

So my collection is growing and growing. I collect LE dolls, designer dolls, snow globes, and WDCC etc.

This is worth a lot of money to me and if it had to be replaced for some disastrous reason.

Does anybody have insurance on their collectables? I've had some friends that do, and think I should get some since the collection is getting so big and worth so much money.

I have been thinking about the same thing. I am not sure if some sort of renters insurance would suffice. I would love to hear what others have to say about this and what company they use to protect their collections.

I have home owners insurance and it covers some of the property damage lets say in case of the fire etc...but the collectibles are kind of lump in so it doesn't cover it entirely... I got a quote from USAA and they actually are combined with like American Collectors insurance or something... and it was 70 bucks a year which isn't bad... just don't know if it's worth it?

Your collectibles are probably not covered for much under your Homeowner's Policy or Renter's Insurance. I have my antiques, pins, and other collectibles underwritten on a special policy. They are appraised every two years. Pins are very hard to appraise and I have to spend weeks researching eBay for current values so that they will accept the value. The OE pins are usually not worth much more than cost so I basically only insure my really valuable stuff. Good luck.

I too have been thinking about getting something to cover my dolls and other collectibles...my husband spent a small fortune on Alice and the first series of designer dolls for me and if something happened I'd never be able to replace them.

Can I ask what Alice collectible a you have? As an AIW collector I have appraisals on lots of my Alice items.

I work for an insurance company and we offer Personal Article Policies for collectible items like this, they normally arent too much money! If you're really interested I would call your company and just see if they offer something like that!

Would you say $70.00 a year for 10k worth of valuables a fair amount?

Oh yes. Ours is typically 1$ per 100 in coverage, so I would definitely say that's great! I would just make sure everything that you want covered is specifically covered under it, so nothing is accidentally left out.
