Is my Anna PTD worthless?

Is my Anna PTD worthless?

I just bought an Anna PTD off eBay and received it today. However, I have noticed on the pin there is actually a pin-pricked size hole on Anna's hair. There is also what seems like a small black line/thread/fluff of about 1cm set in the pin beside Anna's right eye.

really disappointed in this, and I am wanting to know if the pin is worthless and try return in to the seller? I have some pictures.

thank you kindly

The quality on PTD's (DSSH in general too) has been very hit and miss. I personally don't think its worthless. I have quite a few that are subpar but since I went down and got them myself I know they aren't scrappers or fakes. They probably should have been scrapped though if their quality control was any good.

These are mine ... they look pretty good in the photos

This was the last one of these Little Mermaid 25th anniversary pins they had so my only choice (after waiting in line 1 1/2 hours) was to take it or leave it. Note the pin hole like yours.

I don't think it's worthless, but I also think that the defect have the potential to make it worth slightly less than one without the hole. Especially since it's in such a prominent spot in the middle of her head.

Did the ebay auction show photos of the actual pin where you could see the hole before you bought it, or were the flaws mentioned in the description?

If it were me, unless I got a really good deal on it, I would send it back for a refund (especially if the flaws weren't disclosed up front) and wait for another one to go on sale. PTDs have have QC problems lately, but I don't recall too many people complaining about pinholes with Anna.

Elaw that is such a shame about your Ariel pin.

Timeercat no flaws were mentioned in description and the hole is not noticeable in picture unless you really squint your eyes!! I've sent them an email, so should hopefully get a refund. Really bummed about it though as I love the pin!

*nods* This is the part about the hobby where patience is key. The good thing is that there should still be enough of her available out there (I mean, she *is* a 750) where it shouldn't take you too terribly long to replace her. I'm sure you will find her again soon, and for better quality.

A few months back, when the Felix mystery pin was the last one I needed before becoming a Felix completist, I was at a trading event where someone had him for trade. I was really excited because it was the LAST Felix I needed, but the one he had was poor quality, with scrapes across the front of the pin. I could have traded for him then and been done, but I really wasn't happy with the quality and it would have really bothered me to settle. Well, within a few weeks of passing that pin up, I was able to trade for him with someone here on the board, and that one came in perfect condition. I was much happier overall, and I was glad that I had waited.

Those holes seem scarily common on DSF pins now (as well as dips). I actually own three Kaa PTDs, all bought around the first two weeks that they were out, because the first two had dips AND holes. Luckily, the third time was a snake charm as it was a perfect one, but yeah, really disappointing and frustrating. Every time I buy a pin that comes from DSF, I am sad to say that I almost EXPECT it to have a flaw the first time. Something wrong with that I think...

I find people who are putting up PTD's (and soda fountain pins in general) aren't aware of stuff like this. They just know they can make a profit on it so they buy it, run home, and take what they can get for it. While I don't know that this particular buyer is that way, I've found a lot of people selling the newer pins copy and paste descriptions and pics because they don't know any better. Pin isn't worthless but I'm sure if you try to sell it or trade it to someone who knows a thing or two about pins, they'll probably lessen the value because of it.

But i would still say keep it! It's still a lovely pin and if its for your own collection, as long as you like it, that's all that matters!
