After read the scrapper and counterfeit thread, I am already wondering if some of pins are real. I plan on taking pics later on for the forums. If the 4 year old will let me

Anyway is the auction site that bad?

If you buy Pin lots, 99% are fakes! They may say, they are the real enchilada and all, but they are scrappers, and sure they can be traded at the parks, but it's not fair for everyone else who goes to the parks to get real pins and end up either unknowingly trading for those or not finding anything at all.

The funny thing is, they never say they are real pins. They just say that the pins are able to be traded at Disney parks. I know I have been kind of harsh on DisBoards in the November 2012 threads lately (That is when we are going) when people post they bought lots of pins via auction, most for less than a $1 per pin.

If you are trying to get a specific pin, make sure to do your homework. Look up on it on pinpics.com and see if there's a scrapper alert. Check here or even post here and ask around before spending the money. If it's too good to be true, then it's probably a scrapper. Never purchase those like $10 for 25 pins or whatever cause 99.99% they are all fakes/scrappers. Double and triple read the description to see if they say it's legit, authentic since scrappers and fakes are still 'tradable' at Disney parks.

edit: Also, if you aren't looking for specific pins but just some in hope to use as traders or just cause you like them then check out the sales post here! Sometimes people need to do quick sales and could be selling their pins for $5, $4, $3, $2, and even $1 each! It also helps that there are feedback scores here to refer to.

On the bay, be weary of sellers even with 100% feedback score and especially those that don't. Read the feedbacks and if even one or two people say that they got scrappers/fakes then it's to assume that almost all of their pins are scrappers/fakes. Even if it's 100%, still do your homework! Cause the people who buy might not know there are scrappers/fakes or don't even care.

Which is why I've decide to collect pins that are harder to find or those that aren't even made in US since I know that they aren't any fakes of them out there.

Anyways, I hope this helps and good luck! Feel free to ask more questions :) And welcome to the board!

this makes you think about checking all of your pins to see just how real they are. Some you can tell right away but others are so good that you maynot be able to tell. Bummer that this is something we will have to deal with.

things to watch for on the bay:

1~ pin lots: like less than $1.00 per pin.
2~ auctions with the art concept pic instead of a pic of the actual pin they are selling.
3~ super nice pins at a super low price.
4~ auctions with descriptions that skirt around authenticity
  • "tradeable in parks."
  • "disney logo on back."
  • "Real mickey rubber backs."

5~ shipping from direct from China. (still see that on some stoopid scrap sellers)
  • that doesnt mean someone selling a nice pin from HKDL in china is a bad guy.

Just so you are all aware since you seem to think that you're safe from DPF sellers, I have bought pins from someone here that were scrappers. I have been buying off of ebay for 15 years and I've only ever gotten 1-2 scrappers on individual pin sales. As everyone's said, it's really the big, cheap pin lots that are the problem. I mean if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. These lots are almost always HM pins, in fact the HM scrapper thing has gotten so bad I don't ever buy any or trade for them online, if I can't see it in person and make that decision for myself than I'm out, I have also had DPFers trade me scrapper HM. Unfortunately their are snakes everywhere. The good news is that their are fewer bad apples than good.

I tried taking pics, but my bad camera take bad closeups. I think they are safe. Are limited pins scraps or counterfeited much?

Yes. Those are the ones they are trying to get out now cause everyone knows to look for scrappers among the rack pins and Hidden mickeys. Check out my thread in pin comparison and you'll see some recent ones I found that someone on the evil auction site is trying to get away with and then go to Pinpics and look at the Originals. Pinpics most of the time will save your life from getting a scrapper.

Also if you would like the names of some trustworthy sellers on the auction site, just PM me. I know some good ones that don't screw people over and I have bought from in the past.

People are people. The fact that a seller is on a forum is not a guarantee of anything. I know that there are great sellers here, but something to keep in mind about the 'Bay is their Buyer Protection program. (More useful for non-delivery issues than scrapper issues, but still.)

There are some very reputable pin sellers that frequently list nice LE/HTF pins for a low starting price. They obviously know their market and know they will have no problem getting multiple bids. (Often these are the only auctions for a particular pin that sell, while other high-priced "Buy it Nows" sit and stagnate.)
