Soooo....

I put together my lanyard for Wondercon this weekend. I had bought locking pin backs (tool free) because I didn't trust my pins with the rubber backs.

Honestly I think the locking backs are crap as well. I bought them from a recommended ebay back seller and yet about a third of them are defective and won't lock, they just slip on and off or don't go on. The ones that locked seemed great! But then, I went to take my pin off my lanyard after testing it and the lock jammed :/ It ended up breaking my pin post clean off. The others came off fine, but half the ones I removed are now broken and don't lock anymore. I was being gentle, wiggled lightly when needed, squeezed as directed, honestly I just think they are garbage.

I'm to the point where I'm tempted to glue the darn things down to my lanyard. What's the point of having a lanyard if I'm too afraid to wear it out and about? I wore my trader lanyard to the parks with a Mickey back once (even poked a new hole into the rubber so it was tight) and a pin fell off on a ride. I rescued it but still, close call!

How do you secure the suckers?

I'm sad about my broken pin post. It's not the end of the world, I'm never trading it. So far superglue did not work to re-adhere it.

These pins are by ABC and the posts aren't sodered on, they are glued separately, so now I am even more paranoid that I'll loose a pin becuase the back will hold but the post will go, or the post will hold but the back will go!

Perhaps I am not cut out for lanyards... Lol. Maybe I'll just take my lovely Once Upon A Time pins off the lanyard and put them into a shadow box to go next to my Once poster. Or maybe I can poke them through the lanyard AND glue them down for safety. If I decide to frame them I can just cut them off. No one will see the messed up backs in the frame.

Ideas? Do you just wear your pins and watch them like a hawk? Mickey backs? Locking backs tools or no tolls? Gasp, glue!?

I just tested them again after thinking I found all good ones. Even a light tug will take the "locking" pin back off most of them. And no, I'm not pinching when I tug. I use my nails to hold the top of the lock and tug straight back lightly to test how much pressure it takes and most slip right off. Very disappointed in these. Back to the drawing board! I wouldn't even be that peeved except I spent almost $30 on velvet and lace to make my new Captain Hook lanyard and it appears it may never see the light of day.

I use the locking pin backs that don't use a tool , I'm guessing the ones your trying and I think they are great. I got them on eBay as well. I haven't had any issues with mine and not worried about them falling off at all. A couple actually are hard to get off at times cause they are working so well. Can you post a picture of the ones you have maybe they are different from what I'm using.

I feel exactly this, I had a ton of trouble with the little alan wrench ones ruined so many pins (clearly operator error) but with the pressure release no tool ones I havent had a single problem and i LOVE them we have them on 3 lanyards and a vest and they work for us. Weekly trips to the park and so far no lost pins!
