About a month ago I arranged a Pinpics trade that included the pin pictured below. The trader had about a dozen references, two of them from highly regarded DPF members. The trade, which he initiated, was somewhat in my favour, as I only traded an OE for it, but my OE had a better trade ratio and the resale value of the two pins isn't too far off.

The pin I received has defects that I think are pretty significant. I also suspect it's a scrapper, because the backstamp is a little smaller than the other pins I own from this set and this pin does have scrapper/counterfeit warnings.

I sent him an email on March 11th after I received the pin. I tried to be diplomatic, even though I can't see how anyone could send this pin without noticing the defects. I told him my concerns and included the same photos I'm including here, and I asked him to contact me about it. On March 19th I still hadn't heard from him so I emailed him again; this time I suggested that I send him back the pin and he send me a different one (not a pin I would have agreed to initially, plus I'd have to pay for shipping again, but I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation). I still have not heard from him.

I'm torn about whether to make a big deal about this. The pin itself is nothing (it doesn't have a high value and I should be able to get another one without too much trouble) and I'm inclined to just write it off as a bad trade, but it also seems wrong for him to 'get away with it'. Frankly, I think the best way to deal with something like this would be to warn other traders by leaving a negative reference if he doesn't contact me within another few weeks. Unfortunately you can't leave negative references on Dizpins.

Thoughts? I don't think I'm being overly picky by focussing on these defects, but please tell me if you think I am. It's hard to tell in these photos, but the top of the pin (the piece that would hold the hook of the ornament) is also a slightly different colour than my other pins from this set.

The most obvious defect is at the upper left of the pin, just to the right of the tip of her hat. There is also a large-ish streak in the upper left area of the pin. There is a streak in the lower right area of the pin as well.

You maybe can find some others pins like this , and comparing with yours. Thats the better way to know if he is fake, i think. Or maybe if someone here have it , share the pic to.

I'm actually more concerned about the visible defects than the authenticity of the pin. I am prepared to assume that if it's a counterfeit he didn't know it, and I'd just write it off if that was the only issue.

I have this pin- a real one- and can take a picture of it when I get home tonight if you think it will help at least determine if yours is real with defects or a fake. LMK

As for the issue, I would try contact one more time. If there is still no reply, I would contact info@pinpics.com and explain the situation.

Do you have the others in the set? I assume that the backstamps are the same size on all the pins in the set, but I'd like to know for sure.

I would bring this to someones attention just so another "bad trade" doesn't happen again, to someone else. Even if your able to write it off it wouldn't be right if it happenned to someone else. Best way to stop bad trades is through prevention. I feel as though your being reasonable and patient.

I'm so sorry that you have to face this situation. I also think that while leaving a negative feedback on dizpins is not an option, you can write something along the lines of "WARNING SCRAPPER" or something like that, next to the date in the box where you input the date. That might alert people. Particularly if you take the time to leave 3 or 4 consecutive feedbacks with caps that all say the same thing... it'll pop out as people review it.

Just an idea.

Hope it helps, but more importantly, I hope this gets resolved and you receive what you seek.

Thanks so much for posting these photos! I can compare them to my pin and include them in my email to a Pinpics mod if I don't hear back from this guy soon.

If it helps any I have this pin and a few others in the set too if you like I can email you pics but I would need your email I don't know how to post pics on here
