Disney announced Pin Trading as part of their Press Release with details of the upcoming Millennium Celebration!

Just a little blast from the past.

It didn't actually debut until the Millennium Celebration started on Oct 1, 1999 (give or take a couple days for press festivities). But I think that press release was the first inkling of it. But yes, there should be 15th anniversary pin trading stuff this fall. And if not, that tells us what Disney thinks about the whole thing now.

A short time after that announcement, like a couple weeks, people started getting an advertisement for the Millennium Pin Club in their Disney Credit Card billing statement. That was the pin-of-the-day Photomosaic program that you could join for $3000 to receive 15 months of framed pin sets. I'm not sure of the date of that press release, but you can read a copy of it here

Okay, not a park pin "blast from the past." But who, in September 1999, received their Disney Catalog, and saw this on the back.

I remember those weekly waits at the Disney Store for pins! And store cast members wore lanyards for trading! Ah, the very early days! (Although actually, I remember the Disney Gallery stores carrying pins in the mid-90's since they had Alice pins then too!)

I don't know but I bet there were people partying like it was 1999! Sorry, Prince moment! He was still Prince then right?... LOL

Yep I remember those days sitting on the floor at our Disney store waiting to get pins ,that started the madness for me and my...family

I remember seeing the same people waiting at the local Disney store week after week to get their pins... the changing over from beanie collectors to pin collectors... seems so long ago but not so long...

I think I was in Disneyland that day. Happy anniversary! I remember the countdown to the millennium series. At one point, they were sitting in a large bin for $00.97 each! Another pin regret- not having purchased the entire bin.
