Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
My personal opinion is that they are the same two dolls put together in one box like they did with the D23 set. I do not believe they would sell these in Harrods (been in many times) and not once seen a Disney store item ever there. Plus £500 for these would be a joke. The UK market isn't like the U.S. Most of these limited edition dolls take a while to sell out. Only the really popular ones have been a fast sellout. Up until now there has not been a huge lot of publicity in the UK for frozen. Yes we have the dolls and toys here and people do look but they just comment this must be a new Disney film coming out. Only the real fans and collectors purchase. We won't see a frozen sales boom until the movie hits. It's usually always the case

Thanks for clarifying that Mel. Pupuce don't get me wrong not saying that anything you are saying is wrong or anything but I am just trying to figure out why Disney would do something like this as it is so out of character but then again they dod surprise us with a male doll this year. So anything is possible and your points are valid besides I did say that there could be an agreement between Harrods and Disney in relation to this but we don't know that. But based on what we do know so far it really seems more unlikely than likely that either these dolls exist or that they do cost £500.

By the way I just checked the images of the dolls and I agree with you Mel, they are exactly the same. If you compare the earlier leaked Elsa image of the actual doll to the one taken of the set it is exactly the same. Tye cloak has a similar pattern and looks like similar number of flakes on it. As mentioned on here earlier the stock photos could be based on prototypes that didn't have the clothing finalized. So until we hear more information about these dolls I think they are exactly the same just boxed together.

I think that is their target market too. In Harrod's most of the people are tourists and not there to buy anything but a souvenir because the 'actual' stuff is outrageously out of the price range for ordinary people, many things do not have price tags on them (have to make an enquiry) . Some sections have affordable souvenirs and decorations, but its not the same. I have been twice and just looked at things and bought a christmas decoration.
I still can't justify £250 per doll when they barely look different to my eyes from the £60 versions. They aren't even hand-painted or made of porcelain or something

I'm not sure about Elsa as the bottom of her dress is hard to see. She could be the same, and just is photographed as to look more glittery. I do think I see more of the 'crystal' stones (same as on LE Cinderella) on her sleeves and more embroidered snowflakes but I can't be sure.

However, Anna's dress is definitely different. If you look at the vertical pattern, there are crystal stones all along the stripes (between the diamonds) and at the diamond points. This is a different pattern than LE 2500' which only has embroidered dots at the diamond points.

i do not see any other difference in Anna though, and certainly not something to justify the $100 to $400 price hike! I'm pretty sure Elsa will have the same minor differences on her dress.

i did wonder when disney was going to react to the secondary market prices for LE Alice and LE Snow White. This may be their response as people have certainly paid these prices for those dolls in the past....

like you said even if you were a tourist you wouldn't be able to justify paying that much for it as there is nothing to make it exclusive other than the fact that there are only 100 sets out there. If it is a large market for the upper class rich tourists then I guess they wouldn't care about stuff like that and would just buy it if they thought it looked nice but even with all that said 100 units is a lot to sell in such a niche market.

Especially for something that no one knows anything about. But this is all just speculation and based on my opinion and the facts that I am aware of so I could be completely wrong and these things could sell out faster than I know it. So who knows either way I'm getting more and more excited for these dolls to come out as they look amazing!

Maybe it's the other way... Harrods paid disney for an exclusive limited set...
Doesn't make sense!!!!!! Why would you get a Disney store exclusive at Harrods?????!!!! And why would there be a limited edition of a limited edition ??? That doesn't make sense!!!!

It's all very confusing isn't it I was confused enough about the single LE releases and then this gets thrown out there! If it is true, and these are £500 from Harrods only, I suppose that would be in-store? In general you can't even buy the normal disneystore stuff from their online shop. I can't really imagine a queue of people forming a 100 peron long line at Harrods in the morning specifically for these...even with such a small LE, would they really sell out fast? And would scalpers really invest that much unless they could get a 200% profit? Even LE Alice won't sell for £700 and sits waiting on ebay, and shipping for the extra large box on these would be big too. I mean I don't think a scalper would bother unless they could get £800 on the second hand market and I don't think they'd sell for that...
I think they would sell out sllooow-ishy over at least 3 days to extremely eager collectors who can produce the money and rich people who I hope don't give to their 3year old who loves Disney to play with (oh gawd)
SEE MY IMAGINATION IS RUNNING WILD

Aaah so there is a Disney store in Harrods , my apologies to anyone who thought I was saying they weren't telling the truth, that has only been a recent set up I've been told. I work for Disney and wasn't even aware. And Harrods was only recent put on the store locator.but the only thing I question is £500! Lol

Awww man. I kind of want them, but do not need to start another collection right now. Also its hard to want/buy these without having seen the film. I will probably try to get them at my store, and if I DONT love the film Ill just sell/trade them I guess.

I agree! Maleficent will be nearly impossible to get. My husband and I were talking about this and we are worried too. I love Sleeping Beauty and want all the dolls that are released from this movie.
I have to get all of the Sleeping Beauty stuff this coming year, I think its going to be hard too.

I see more crystals on Anna's skirt. So unless the single dolls also get those crystals put on, there is at least that difference. With Elsa I can't tell if there are more embroidered snowflakes or more crystals because the way the cape is wrapped is different so tis hard to compare. Still, these are very minor differences and really the single dolls should have had all the details in the first place.

Some thoughts I had: I think this is almost an ironic response to the outcry against the Merida Elinor double set. So many people complained about them being put together that Disney did not go that way with Anna and Elsa. Plus it took forever for them to sell out. But, honestly I think we would buy and want Anna and Elsa as a set if they are this detailed and set in such a way we can see both easily. I know I would buy them together AND I'd want them separate even if they were the exact same dolls so long as the price was normal. But Disney seems to instead have decided to put them together with a low number and a ridiculous price which I certainly will not pay, who knows who will. I don't even think these will do good on ebay because I doubt a shark would risk it and most collectors will be content with them single. I'd guess that on ebay you'd be lucky to find a buy at retail.

Eta:
if I had to choose either separate or together, I prefer separate. But if Disney is making a double set I'd buy both if the prices were normal.

I am a little miffed about the Harrods set. The quality of the dresses in the Harrods set should have been what the regular limited edition dolls should have for the $100 price point. It looks like Elsa has an extra snowflake on her head and the cape looks sheer with more embellishment.

I do think the Harrods set will sell out and that will encourage Disney to keep doing this, putting the best out of most collectors range. I still want to get the wider release dolls but this could get really annoying down the road like with Aurora getting a blue dress in a super limited expensive set.

Also Disney is directly running the Disney boutiques in the JCPenney's stores. That is a trend in retail these days to allow other companies to rent retail space. In the case of JCP, Disney has exclusives although the merchandise seems plainer, I guess Harrods is the opposite with high end exclusives.

That really sums up quite perfectly what worries me too

Oh ****, if they do Aurora in blue that's going to suck. I would much prefer her in blue, and there's no way I could justify a 250 GBP Doll. MY clothes don't cost that much!

oh god I would melt. I too, love Aurora in blue. if they did that, it would make me so sad, because I'd never ever be able to afford her at that price point.

The insane thing about that exclusive set is people WANT to buy it!

On ebay someone sells 2 sets for 800£ each! 50 watchers!!!!

:|

Seriously?? How crazy this thing is going? Just for a small limited edition number and some fancier detail? :nono:

I simply just don't understand.. This is probably the most crazy thing i ever seen for limited dolls.

I don't quite get it either. People have really done nothing but complain about the set, but it seems they are still being bought. If they are upset about it, I wouldn't invest in it because it will have multiple negative consequences:

A) It will alert Disney that they can get away with skimping on future "normal" Limited Edition dolls.
B) It is essentially three times more for a few extra pieces of glass/plastic and the exclusivity of them being boxed together.

Maybe it is just me, but I would not be happy looking at them and knowing what I paid to get them and the hassle and knowing that I could have saved a pretty penny and just been happy having almost the same exact dolls separately (and most likely sitting right beside it on the shelves). I mean think about it, Disney/Harrod's wants people to pay more for one set of two dolls than we all probably spent buying the entire line of the DFDC. Or more than the past two years of the 17" doll releases combined. I would consider myself a completest in life and hate to see my collections missing things, but truly this does not whet my appetite because it does mostly seem like a big rip off. I know people are allowed to collect what they want to and I am sure the dolls look great in person, as will the LE 2500 ones, but unless this set was priced only slightly above normal ($300-350 for the two together) for this line I would never consider it.

Something is rotten in the state of Dollmark.

Totally agree! It's actually a sad thing..
Finger crossed for "regular" (still very limited!) dolls

Crazy and insane to pay that much!! It's a big gamble because nobody knows how much they will love or not love these characters.....and honestly, I am going to go to the jewelry whole seller store and buy some pretty crystals, then go by some fabric glue and bling up my $100 dollies pretty crystal beads aren't very expensive!

LOL, why is everyone getting so bent about this exclusive set? To those of us who don't want to spend that kind of money on something ultra rare, we should be HAPPY the differences are so insignificant. Imagine they had different outfits and hairstyles and cost that much? We'd all be crushed that we couldn't afford them.

This is just a more deluxe version of something most of us can get at a fraction of the cost. I for one (LUCKILY!) prefer the DS versions. I don't like all the embroidery on Elsa's dress or the overkill of bedazzling on Anna's dress, so this is nothing to cry about.

And spending that kind money on such a rare set of dolls--IF YOU LIKE THEM--isn't crazy at all. This is Disney, and I think there should be special releases like this every once in a while. It's amazing that they sold out in a weekend at that price. It makes me appreciate my $100 dolls all the more.

Also, I don't think we have to love a character to love a doll, and these dolls are beautiful regardless to how much I'll love them or their movie. They're still a part of the Disney cannon now.

Doll collecting really brings out so many heightened emotions in grownups--it's actually really amusing
