Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information

I agree with LittleMermaidAriel that as far as the Disney Store is concerned with the market trends, that they are more interested in how quickly the items sells direct from them more than what the secondary market sales are going for (though I assume that it is factored in when they do make decisions on edition sizes). As we all know, what people do with their dolls after buying them from the Disney Store is ultimately their business. So, I think that there is still a good chance that we may see more LE Disney princes, but as for their edition sizes, who knows?

Keep in mind that LE Prince Eric is currently selling for around $150+ (~$200 max) on eBay and it's only been a month since release, which shows me that the trend of at least a 50% mark up out of the gate is to be expected more frequently moving forward. Other LE dolls in the past, like LE Lady Tremaine, LE Cinderella, LE blonde Rapunzel, and LE Queen of Hearts were still quite available at close-to-cost listings for as much as up to a year after their releases (from personal purchasing experiences for those that I did not buy at release). LE Wedding Rapunzel, LE Merida and LE Merida & Elinor are still selling at listings around actual cost, sometimes more sometimes less.

A snap-shot of what I was faced with when I started collecting the 17" LE dolls went something like this in early 2012 (Feb-April) as I recall:
LE Snow White (2009): around $600 (this has not changed much since)
LE Tiana (2010): around $140-$150
LE Belle (2010): around $150-$170
LE blonde Rapunzel (2011): around $110-$130
LE Mother Gothel (2011): around $300
LE Alice (2011): around $300 (this spiked considerably higher shortly after)
LE Queen of Hearts (2011): around $115-$120 (her value shot up alongside LE Alice)

By the end of 2012, when I finally convinced myself to get LE Tiana and LE Belle, their prices went up to $200 and $250, respectively. Character desirability, LE size, hype, and availability on the secondary market all play a factor in the perceived current market values. I think that the resellers kind of shoot themselves in the foot by trying to turn a quick buck when so many of them flood the secondary market with the newest dolls. In general, the only ones who really profit well are the first ones to list and sell on the day of release when the actual item is in-hand. After that, it does peter out and stagnate for a while, and then the prices start going up only when there are less dolls circulating. LE Lady Tremaine is a pretty good example of this, as she was just not selling for very much more than cost for the longest time, but now seems to be doing better, selling for closer to $200 now, and let's be honest: she is not a terribly popular character in the Disney canon.
Like with all investments, the desirability and rarity have to be there to actually turn a good profit, and sometimes the item has to sit a while to see its time.

The case of the 2011 Designer Ariel doll is a lot like LE Snow White: a gorgeous doll that was not swarmed on by resellers at release and so more of the dolls ended up in collections rather than as secondary market goods, so they are more rare and therefore command a higher price. Designer Ariel was also helped out a lot by the madness of Dollmageddon (hype).

As for the Harrods LE Anna & Elsa LE 100 doll set, I can see the Disney Store doing stuff like this again in the future. Mattel often had exclusive Barbie dolls with FAO Schwartz, and those dolls were often top-bananas for quite a while in those circles. That said, if they do continue with making such highly expensive and exclusive dolls, I hope that it is managed like these: the same dolls, the same outfit design, but just with a lot more sparkly embellishments compared to the "regular" LE dolls that are affordable and available to the rest of us. The Harrods set is clearly not for the average collector, and I am totally fine with that, but I can see how it can be a nightmare for absolute completionists (sorry Polaris! ).

I think London is 8 hours ahead of the west coast, so it should be around 8am your aunt's time.

Yup,it will be 8am on the 20th.

Nope it's definitely 8am, the clocks go forward and back to make the most of the daylight hours which change in spring and autumn so the time is the same but we gained an hour to have more sunlit hours during the day as it gets dark so quickly!

Thanks for your help guys! I'll probably still be up at 3am with you guys to walk my aunt through the check out. Hope the link fairies help us out!

For those still interested in the Harrods set, I read on facebook per a Londoner that Harrods is releasing them in batches. This seems legit as there are accounts and photos of people still able to get them, after they were 'sold out' the first time. So there is still hope if you are after a set.

Does anyone know if the Disney Store at the Toronto Eaton Centre will have these? I have been under the weather lately or else I would go and ask myself

Yes eaton centre will get them. They're expecting 3 or 4 of each character but they won't know for sure until the week before.
Do you know if any of the other locations in the GTA are getting them? I'm likely going to have to send someone to buy them for me and it looks like it would be better to have them go to another location so that we are not all competing.

My only "fear" that has been created with this 2-pack LE set that is more detailed and so super exclusive...is in regards to Maleficent next year. She is one of the top most popular villains and it is really her year next year. (Aurora who? Psht! Whatevs.) Should they decide to make some over the top exclusive version of her, then I will be right there like all of you that are currently angry about this set. But, that is a year away so...why worry now?

Also...for crying out loud. They now have made three...THREE...Queen dolls and still have not made THE Queen doll. Hearts, Elenor, and Elsa...but no Grimhilde? Nuh uh, that's unacceptable. *crosses arms, turns away, and huffs out an exhausted breath of impatience*

I'm really surprised to see a Disney Store/Harrods Exclusive. Seems so out of the blue but the dolls look great with all the extra crystals on them. Does this mean Disney now has a Double Size doll box ready for future releases of different sets ?!

That was my biggest concern about next year as well. Maleficent. She is extremely popular so I am super worried about getting her LE 17"

Also my cousin and I always talk about how Disney NEEDS to make a LE Evil Queen. I can only imagine how beautiful it would be.

This is completely random, but what if there were 17" LE Disney Fairies? I'd die if I saw Rosetta.
OMG dying right now! I would love to have a 17" LE Tink and Terence!

Not doll related but here's a link to a girl who really changes her appearances to look like all the Disney Princess's!

I follow a guy on tumblr/instagram etc that dresses as Ariel a lot in cosplay. He did a great thing where he was both the male and female role/character for most of the Disney couples. Its amazing.

Right?! Half of me wants her made in true to cartoon over glamorization...but the other half wants her done in cartoon true to the time period glamorization (like the Snow White doll was). Either way, I know (AND EXPECT) that she will be gorgeous!

They still have the store in NYC left but no grand clock in the center. I don't know what happened to the clock. They went bankrupt and were purchased by someone else. They have some exclusives but it is nothing like it used to be.

They were bought by Toys R Us.

I seem to be forgetting, but did we have other LE 17" dolls other than Ariel/Usula/Eric this year? Has it been one princess a year now? I would love Elsa, but I think I'll wait until another princess gets released. I've heard people talking about Aurora for next year. I hope it's still true, however; with one LE princess doll a year I'd hate to wait until this time next year.

I think I'm getting confused because they had a wedding Rapunzel, and then they released Cinderella. Which makes me think...what if they release a wedding Ariel in spring 2014?

wedding Rapunzel was released to commemorate the release of the short Tangled Ever after. So unless they are releasing something little mermaid related early next year I don't see that happening. I think we might be seeing an alternative frozen doll instead released early next year to commemorate the DVD release.

Generally the releases are based on other events going on at Disney so there is no real pattern. Also not all events generally mean there will be a doll. This year the princess dolls released are Ariel, Anna and Elsa so there are three princess dolls there. Next year Aurora is expected to be released as they are releasing her DiamondEdition bluray next year around Oct so you can expect her to be released for sale around July.

Usually you can always guarantee a LE release around October (during doll season) as that is when the have releases to coincide with the bluray release. There will also be a Maleficent doll but it is unsure if they will release on during the live action movie release or along with the bluray release. I for one believe it will be released as a "surprise" during the blu ray release.

Looks like Jungle book has been confirmed for the Spring 2014 release

which means the chances of Aladdin being the Fall release in 2015 is looking more likely! Hopefully that will be the case as that could mean we will be seeing a LE Jasmine, Aladdin and Maybe even Jafar if Disney follows the TLM trend. Also that will be during the next D23 expo so hopefully they will do some amazing releases for Aladdin just like they did with the art of Ariel! Which is great news as we do need more Aladdin merchandise!

I am really looking forward to the LE Jasmine and Aladdin dolls!! I agree, we really do need more Aladdin merchandise! I would love to see a doll or plush of the sultan and more Rajah merchandise, I love Rajah! ♥

- YES YES YES!! I keep telling my coworkers that 2015 should be the year that Aladdin will be taking over& I'm extremely excited! Plus it's an expo year too, which I'm excited to go to!! can't wait for them go all out on the merchandise. I'm already excited for the vinylmation jr. set that they're planning to make.

I certainly am looking forward to the next couple of years' LE dolls. I am wishing for LE Aurora, LE Prince Philip, and LE Maleficent as well as LE Aladdin and LE Jasmine. LE Jafar... well, as long as they devise a new head sculpt for him that does not look like the peanut-shaped head they gave the Classic doll, he could look very awesome, too!

I'm already saving up for LE Aurora, Phillip and maleficent! And hopefully LE Winter Anna! And at least DFTC sets... Lol, it's going to be another hard hitting year for us collectors, isn't it?

It will be another expensive, but exciting year. I absolutely love Sleeping Beauty and will be stalking the website and forum again next year. I'm also saving now for the dolls. As expensive as it is, I absolutely love the anticipation and adding these treasures to my home! I hope for new and exciting things next year as well. I'm already pondering the spring release....

So this is going to be really off topic, but yesterday I was at Goodwill and found an Animator's Rapunzel doll in her nightgown for only $4! Her hair needs some serious TLC, but I think I can manage! I'll post pictures of her later
