Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
Am I the only one who wants a LE coronation Elsa doll?

Spoilers below.

I see Elsa's coronation gown as a glass half empty or half full situation. It's all about how you look at it. Despite all of those years of work trying to conceal her powers, Elsa unleashed them for the first time to Anna (since her memories were changed) and the people of her kingdom during the ball after her coronation. She almost didn't make it through the coronation without revealing them. However at some point it was bound to happen. Ignoring the issue wasn't going to make it go away. She had to face it head on. It was on the mountaintop (in her coronation gown), that despite being an outcast from her own kingdom, that she felt free for the first time in her life and finally "let it go", which was shown symbolically by her releasing her glove which she used to conceal her secret. Out of one of the worst moments of her life came one of if not her greatest moment. For the first time since she was a child she experienced joy and relief which can be seen so clearly in the expression on her face. She was finally able to let loose and see what she could really do with her powers. Elsa built her ice palace, which was one her greatest creations and one of Disney's most stunning pieces of animation. She didn't change into her Snow Queen gown until the "Let It Go" sequence was almost over.

There's also the fact that Elsa became queen of her kingdom in the coronation gown. Yes it wasn't the ideal situation with her trying to keep her emotions as well as her powers at bay, but it still is a significant moment since it marks her gaining the throne as a young, single woman, which is an uncommon event in a Disney movie.

This doll also has a potential that other LE 17" dolls before her did not. It would actually work for this doll to have a handheld accessory for both hands. She could hold her scepter and her globus cruciger like in the movie. IMO the LE Snow White doll only should have had one handheld accesory (the apple since it's iconic) since the bird and apple were from two different scenes. It just seemed overdone to me. However with a LE coronation Elsa it would be perfect. She wouldn't have accessories simply for the sake of having them.

Another aspect that would make a LE coronation Elsa doll a great doll is her cape. It was so long and elegant the way it flowed across the frozen fjord and on the mountaintop.

I want a coronation Elsa, I think she would look wonderful next to coronation Anna. If I could only get 2 it would be Anna and Kristoff though.

Given the financial success of Frozen at the box office and the fast sell out time of the first round of the dolls, I think we'll see both Snow Outfit Anna and Coronation Elsa, hopefully with larger edition sizes.

I also predict a price increase in the dolls. They tried it too fast, raised it too much, and without any warning in the European market this time, but it was evidence that a price change is coming. I think next time they will raise it globally though, to avoid what happened this time.

Well if they decide to increase the price they better justify it with better shipping and customer service as a $10 gift card to replace a $100 item will not cut it.

One hundred percent agreed! I understand that one of the biggest reasons that they are increasing prices is to compete with the secondary market. However, they seriously need to step up and offer better packaging and delivery+outstanding customer service in events such as lost/damaged dolls. If DS continues to raise their prices they will make it very difficult for true doll collectors to keep up. It's not like these dolls are cheap, they are quite an expensive habit. Keep raising prices and no one will be able to afford them.

Ahh I know its a minor spoiler but can you please warn people!

Oops, I totally didn't realize it might seem spoilery. I forgot that the movie's not out in all parts of the world yet and, worse, that this isn't even the Frozen thread. Thank God that's all I said!

I don't think if they did a DAC boy that he would have molded hair. I have a toddler Aladdin doll with rooted hair. I think they would just glue the hell out of it, like they did with Vanellope's hair and LE Eric's hair. I wouldn't mind that. Their heads are big enough that the hair can be styled. It would depend on the character, though.

But, back to the main topic, yes, I can see them wanting to release more LE dolls with the Blu-ray considering the popularity of the movies and how fast the sisters sold out. I agree that they would even up the edition size.

Email sent last night with 17 pictures. As we looked at the box, we noticed some creases/crinkles/etc on the front too (the tears obviously are what you see first). Final word count for email: 1200+ words....LOL

My doll has a GOUGE in her eye. I've contacted customer service and NO REPONSE. I'm really sad...I didn't look really well at her (the lighting in the part of the apt I have her in is not good) and I saw the film and then loved her more and realized something was off with her right eye. I'm so bummed out. I can probably fix the paint as I do repaints myself but I am bummed to have paid 90eu for a LE doll with damage from DS. I can't afford aftermarket prices to replace her either! Such a bummer.

OMG Jessa, now I need to go look at the doll closely, I only saw the tears in the box. EEK!

Wow all these stories about your dolls are so sad. I really hope that everyone get things fixed. It irks me that scalpers might have perfect dolls to upsell on ebay and true collectors are getting damaged dolls. It might not be the case. But just so sad.

I really hope after all the damages this year that they take a good look at how they ship things. Must be costing them more to take back damages, issue refunds, and gift cards instead of just upgrading their packaging or something.

Um, we might have another Doll to worry about here. Moana? I heard she's going to be the 14th Disney Princess.
Some concept art:

LOL that movie isn't due for release for another 5 years so im sure we will see many a dolls before then. Who knows Disney may decide to stop the dolls by the (unlikely due to their popularity).

I would like to see where they take the dolls at that point in time, as there are only so many princesses so far (really hoping we have Mulan and Pocahontas by then to complete the entire princess line to date).

I just wonder will the Disney Doll line just become like the way of the Barbie dolls and become a continuous release? Because unlike Barbie these are limited items (not to mention they take up so much space) so many too much of them will not be easy nor would it be received well if dolls are redone. Which does raise the question does this mean in future fewer dolls will be released each year (especially once all the diamond editions are released) or will they start rehashing at the older releases such as Snow White and release a different version of her (which I really hope they do not do but since it is disney wouldn't be surprised if they did). Or maybe just release an evil queen as they missed out on that doll during the original launch of the line which does seen like a better idea (possibly during the Snow White 3D release as it originally missed out on that technology LOL).

Either way 5 years is a long time so it will be very interesting to see where Disney decides to take the line. Who knows I may have stopped collecting the line due to running out of space! Lol

I wonder if we'll see anything from Giants (eta 2016). It has two female characters (one being a tomboy named Inma and one a merchant's daughter named Angelina). http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Giants

As for Moana, I looked up the name first time I heard about the movie. Means ocean. Mo-ah-nah or even mwa-nah, depending upon which South Pacific culture you look to for pronunciation. I wonder if we will be in another Pocahontas situation in which the outfit is hard to glam up for the purpose of a LE doll?

Lineup, if you can believe Disney Wikia, is Big Hero 6 (Marvel characters); Zootopia in 2015 (anthropomorphic animals--main character a Fox); Giants (Jack and the Bean Stalk retelling) in 2016; Moana (eta 2018); and King of the Elves--wow, Phillip K. Dick story. I read some of his science fiction. He was a schizophrenic who wrote under influence of drugs. Never read "King of the Elves." That one should be . . . interesting.

I think Disney will release a LE doll for all of their Walt Disney Animation studio movies as they have done so far to date (with the exception of movies with no human female lead characters eg Pooh). Tiana - PaTF, Rapunzel - Tangled, Wreck It Ralph - Sgt Calhoun and Frozen - Anna and Elsa. So if they do continue these dolls (which I am sure they will) I could definitely see them doing Angelina and Inma. Wonder why they specifically states that Inma is a tomboy? In some cultures the term tomboy is also understood to be another term for a female that likes the same gender. Which I think would be very controversial of Disney (so is unlikely) but would have been awesome as that is something so different and would have been such a bold and inspirational move by Disney to acknowledge that, but I doubt it. I am guessing they just mean that she is a tough girl that has a boyish demeanor.

As for Moana yes the first name can pass off for a South Pacific name but the surname sounds very Hawaiian. You would be surprised, there are a lot of South Pacific tribal dresses that are very detailed and far from simple. So I can definitely see them having no issues in getting her into something amazing for a LE. The problem with Pocahontas was that she was always in the same thing throughout the movie and there was no scene that warranted her being in something fancier than what she wore throughout. This may not be the case for Moana, they could have a special occasion or some event that warrants her wearing a traditional tribal gown which would look stunning in doll form! Especially since it would stand out for sure! I see a lot of Palm leaves and tropical touches to it like flowers and coconuts!

I honestly think it would be quite easy to glam up Pocahontas for a LE doll. Maybe with a leave motif for Colors of the Wind or elk teeth and beads and feathers in her hair and a small braid or two. I have no clue if any of that would be accurate to the Powhatan tribe but maybe that's why they haven't released her yet because of the controversy it could create. I would love a Pocahontas and Mulan dolls regardless though.

Moana is coming out in 2018! It's way too close. Never too early to start worrying about getting the Doll. Or to start getting excited. Though not too excited because if that doesn't happen that'd be horrible.

Well, at least we know Disney won't go too historically accurate on clothing. After all, Native American children and, therefore, Pocahontas ran around naked as a child--Va is a hot climate in the summer, and I don't blame them one bit! We also know many Polynesians also went bare chested (the climate being what it is). The European missionaries foisted those awful mumu dresses on them. This movie predates European exploitation of the Polynesians. The concept art looks like she has on a nice sarong. Very pretty, but, also, very simple.

(Source:http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/pocahontas/lege-nf.html) "A CHEIFF LADYE OF POMEIOOC
1590, Theodor de Bry (after John White) If she had never been abducted and married into English culture, how would Pocahontas have appeared as a young woman? What did she look like as an adolescent, when John Smith first encountered her? A hint of the answers may lie in this colored engraving based on watercolors done by John White, an English artist and explorer who lived among native Virginians in 1585-86, roughly a decade before Pocahontas's birth. According to White's images and related text, a Powhatan girl wore no clothing before puberty. From about the age of 12 onward, she donned a deerskin skirt, perhaps decorated with beads or carved with figures from nature. Powhatan women also adorned themselves with tattoos and body paint derived from roots, as well as necklaces, bracelets, and earrings strung with freshwater pearls, shell beads, copper, animal teeth, or beads of bone."

Actually, I did see a Pocahontas doll that turned out very pretty in winter gear. I'd love to see her with some well-placed braids and a cape. I just worry that they will stick with the faux deer hide dress if they make a LE doll. Don't get me wrong. In the movie, she is stunning in that simple dress. It just seems like every Pocahontas looks the same except for that beautiful winter one. Ok, It's called Winter Moon Pocahontas.

Polaris: Yes, at least in USA, tomboy means a girl who likes to do boyish stuff. Merida would be an example of a tomboy. Sexual preference depends on individual. I was a tomboy growing up. I grew up on a farm. I wasn't afraid of worms or snakes. Rode my bike. Wasn't a girly girl. Didn't like wearing dresses. I am still tomboyish. I love hiking and camping and stuff like that. I do, however, like collecting dolls, and I occasionally wear feminine clothes and makeup.

I LOVE Winter Moon Pocahontas and would love to get her one day. I wish Mattel still made great collector quality Disney dolls these days.

So, the "resolution" is a $20 online gift card and no discount on the damaged doll/box. Please, that $20 gift card doesn't cost anything to Disney and, instead makes Disney more $$ since the part of the $20 is either eaten up with S&H or someone goes and buys $75 worth of stuff to get free shipping.

Wrote back and said not satisfied with the resolution and to give a shipping label to return the doll...wonder if they will go back and send it to someone else? LOL

Yeah, the online GC is certainly a ploy to make us buy more later, and it is their most basic modus operandi. Sadly for me, I know that I will always want to buy more from them in the future, so I freely admit that I usually accept those when a replacement is not an option (like with sold out LE items). If you send the doll back, for sure they will just send her out (damages and all to the box) to someone else... and of course not disclose that the doll box is damaged. Ugh!

That's exactly what I was thinking....I am going to see if they will include a refund/discount of some sort. I mean, it costs them $20-25 to mail the box to CA, will cost them another $20-25 in return shipping charges, so you'd think they could throw a bone and include a refund/discount of $25 too (on top of the merchandise gift card!)

I agree with everything you said! Not to mention that Elsa is by far the bigger seller merchandise wise (it is so hard to get your hands on some of her stuff) and we know Disney when it comes to making money... Not to mention, it displays the perfect collector mentality, it hits everyone up. For the people who collect everything, they will have to get both. For Elsa lovers, they will have to get just that one. Same for Anna lovers getting Snow Gear Anna. And for those who just want "matching" outfits, AKA outfits that are seen together, they will have to get Coronation Elsa to match Coronation Anna, and Snow Gear Anna to match Ice Queen Elsa.

After seeing the movie I definitely hope that when they do release the dolls for the blu ray release that they will do both Anna and Elsa. Mind you Elsa does not talk much throughout the movie at all and Anna is definitely the main character with Elsa being a supporting character so they would definitely be doing Anna in her Snow Gear at the very least but I would like it if they did both so that way we can match the current dolls with those ones because right now Anna looks so formal in a gown whereas Elsa just looks pretty in her dress. Also Elsa only wears her crown whilst in her coronation outfit so it would be awesome to see another crown as not very many of the princess LE dolls have crowns. I think Elinor from the Brave set does and Rapunzel in her wedding gown. So it would be nice to see Elsa with her hair up and wearing a crown as well.
