Honestly, I would have loved Charlize Theron as Maleficent, to me she would have been perfect. She was the only thing good about the "Snow White" movie. I understand that for some that could be a conflict of characters, but she was the one I envisioned from the start playing Maleficent. I am not a Jolie fan, but I will give this movie a shot because its Maleficent. I do have to admit when I saw the previews and I heard her speak I was amazed as to how perfect she sounded, it sounds just like Maleficent. Hopefully she can act the part too.
I had a lot of thoughts on this movie after the footage at D23 that I posted on Facebook. None of that's changed so I'll post it here (second paragraph was a reply):
This trailer continues it. I like the look for the most part as it's very Earl except with a darker scheme (since apparently that's in for fairy tale films) and don't mind Joli (though why she isn't green/cyan is beyond me). Absolutely hate the whole exchange between Aurora and Maleficent. There's just so much wrong with this film that I'm partly dreading it. If a kids book can do a convincing "other side" that doesn't really mess with the established film (where-in Aurora always takes delight in Philip's amusing stories about having to fight some dragon to save her), why can't this? Sure, Sleeping Beauty could use more character development, but I rather like the whole villain being motivated by being spurned at a baby shower bit. It's oh so fickle and evil compared to what this film suggests.
Really, if they just claimed this was mostly unrelated with the film I love dearly, I'd probably look forward to it. Can't be any worse than Burton's lackluster Alice.
Hot Toys wise, it'd be awesome if they did one that looked like Marc Davis' design. I'm also looking forward to the Sleeping Beauty merchandise resurgence assuming it's not all this new film. Would love a great blue dress figure/doll.
Also looking forward to the new Blu-ray release assuming they get the colors right this time and leave some grain in. Though it could be perfect and it'll never replace my 50th edition since it's signed by Ron Dias and Mary Costa.

The pink/blue debate has a number of reasons for it. The key case of course being that the dress is blue for 90% of the film and the only major point for pink is that it's so when the book finally closes.
The other being that she was NOT marketed as "The Pink Princess" until the launch of the Princess line. Up until that point, blue WAS dominant. She wore it in the parks (though they may have been variants from time to time), most of the merchandise was blue; my oldest pins and even the WDCC line featured her in blue, the pink being the LE version. Though often you would get both, and that's the third stigma against it in that we rarely get both these days. We even tend to get art of her asleep in the pink dress sometimes.
So yes, it was the Princess line that basically banned the blue dress and started the whole debacle for the lame reason of "Cinderella is the blue princess" despite her dress being properly silver. I still find it hard to believe people confused blue Aurora for Cinderella. Certainly no well-versed Disney kid would. Then again, most Auroras tend to sign, "Sleeping Beauty" so frankly, if you even remember her name(s), you're obviously in a special league. ^_^
Finally, the last point is opinion. Yes, I prefer Merryweather to Flora, and the color blue to pink. I also think the blue dress just flat out looks better.
I'm sure if it were all blue, we'd get, "why no pink" from time to time, but likely not as often.
Ive never seen those. They are so detailed.http://www.hottoys.com.hk/news.php?newsID=126
