I just received a pin in a trade, and I was checking out the back and noticed that part of the Mickey waffle pattern went off the edge of the pin (as is typical of authentic pins), and another part had the border (as seen on some fake pins)!

In the picture below, the lower part of the pin has no border, and the upper part has a border!

What do you think? Real or fake?

It looks fake to me without looking at the front. This looks struck vs cast, which most all of the pins up until now have been. Disney error ones will have the waffle pattern be where the pin continues, vs this one which is raised up. There is a whole forum for pin comparison, a little bit below the discussion one.

Do you have a pin you know is authentic? Look at how close the Mickey heads are to each other on the authentic pin. Now look at the Mickey heads here. Fake.

Magnets can be useful for some pins. But there have been authentic pins that react strongly too. When people first started talking about using a magnet, people went through the pin racks at the park, and there were several. So as a definitive, across the board tool, no. I do tend to use it for recent Hidden Mickey pins though.

Ok thank you, fairly new to collecting but it's something that my children (we have 9) and I have been enjoying! So many cool pins it can be overwhelming at times then throw in possible fakes. I wish we could have someone who know what they are looking for come check our collection for us. Thanks again for info!

Here is the back of mine (same pin). Note, it also has a serial number on it. I got it a few years ago, but not directly from the parks.
