More trade value questions from Loomi

Just looking for a little advice on some trades before I go making a fool of myself on pinpics... Objective advice appreciated as I am still learning. Obviously it all depends on how much the pin in question is worth to the person at the other end of the trade but I don't want to come across as rude or expecting more than my pin is worth!


First of all would..

Pin 97066 DLP PTN Pascal (LE400, wants 231, trades 31)

be a fair trade for both of these pins? Or am I being very ambitious / hopeful? :lol:

Pin 39498 Disney Auctions Sidekicks - Tramp & Jock (LE100, wants 58, trades 3)
Pin 39472 Disney Auctions Sidekicks - Simba & Zazu (LE100, wants 121, trades 6)

I feel like it is ballsy of me to ask for 2 LE 100's but I see the wants are much higher for the PTN?? I feel like I am being blinded with that pin-collector desire to have all of the pretty things somehow.
Or should I be going on monetary value.. the only Tramp & Jock pin I can find on ebay is up for £159 alone but not sold.. sold listings for Pascal are only about £60-£65.. Would a fairer trade be just the Pascal for the Jock?



And the second one..

I think they're both reasonable (not all LE 100's are created equal), but for the first one I honestly think that you would also make a fine deal with just going for Jock and/or Zazu. (If you go for both, maybe try to throw in another pin to balance it out so it's two for two.)

As for the LE 300, I think that's super fine. Both have about the same trade/want ratio, and for US collectors UK pins are a lot more difficult to come by. (I am assuming you're trading with someone in the US, but if not I still think that it's a pretty fine trade.)

For the first trade, I don't have anything else from their wants, but I guess I could always ask them to take a look over my traders and see if there is anything else they like, perhaps just as an extra trader for themselves?

For the second.. I think they are in the US but I'm not 100% sure! I did think this was looking like an alright trade but I know that Lion King one is popular.

In case anyone couldn't tell I am going after some of my grails... :rofl:

I think you also need to be considering that a very old pin with only 3 or 6 people trading (likely people who've had these pins for years with many opportunities to trade them previously) and a much lower edition size is simply a rarer pin than a recent one with more wanting but a lot more trading.

It always comes down to who wants what, but most old time traders I know would not respond positively to a request for two very old low edition pins for a more recent high(er) edition pin that they could likely get easier elsewhere.

Just a different perspective.

This is why I ask these questions I know everyone has a different way of 'valuing' pins for themselves (some prefer matching LE, some prefer matching desirability as far as wants/trades ratios, some judge by monetary value). Without knowing how the other trader values their pins.. I can't know for sure how my message would be recieved! But I really do not want to annoy or offend anyone

I don't know if it is worth asking about the two but adding into the message that I would probably also trade the Pascal for just the Jock...

I personally think they are both reasonable offers also. I wouldn't feel offended if someone made that offer to me.

Le 100 pins are always very difficult to find. If you sent me that offer for 2 of the LE 100's I would not reply. They are much older and much harder to get. It is fairly easy to find a pascal ptn pin but as you found out trying to find older pins especially le 100 pins are not easy to get a price on. The reason for that is they are mostly in people's collections. I know a lot of people (myself included) don't usually put le 100 pins on their wants list because they are almost impossible to find. At best I would offer it for one, but again I don't think you would get any takers, but you never know unless you ask.

You might have a shot at the second trade. I know lion king fans are pretty hard to get the pins from. There is a pretty good size lion king community and they all want the harder to get pins. That being said Kevin is pretty awesome also.

No it would not be a fair trade for both of the pins, it is very ambitious. If you look at the T/W ratio, the DLP Paris Pin (which is only 2 years old and last sold for $70) has a 1:8 t/w ratio. The DA Tramp & Jock has a 1:20 t/w ratio and the Simba & Zazu has a 1:20 t/w ratio. So, even looking at the t/w ratios, it's not even at all.

Plus, as the others have posted, most people are not giving up a DA LE 100 for a DLP 400.

This would probably be a somewhat more equal trade, although, looking at t/w ratio, DSUK is 1:3 and the DSF is 1:6.

I have lots of DA100 in my traders (but neither of those), and I would not seriously consider trading a single DA100 for the Paris PTN 400 let alone two of them! This offer could also seriously annoy the trader enough that they might ignore any future requests, good or bad.

The UK 300 for the DSF 300 is certainly closer, but I actually had both of those pins on my wants when they came out. The UK pin was a whole lot easier to trade for, and that DSF pin took a lot of time and patience to get. For better or worse, many people put a premium on DSF pins (and that's not even counting the PTD pins!) and want a little more for it...

Good luck in your trade requests. Just keep in mind, even trade requests that are good and reasonable can be ignored by PinPics traders. Personally, I don't log into the new PinPics very often (still not fond of it), so I never even see trade requests sent to me! PinPics used to e-mail me to tell me the trade requests, but now they don't.

Pin trading politics is so hard to grasp o.o some of these replies make me scared to try! How am I ever going to get some of these pins when I don't have LE 1000 of my own to trade?!

I should add that if I had more stuff from their want lists I would certainly offer it. Just in these cases, I don't have anything else!

I will think on it some more and maybe send a tentative PM for the 2nd trade.

1. I don't think you'll have much luck here . I'm in a similar boat as you , I'm unlikely to ever have anything of such a low LE that I could trade for these type of pins . I'll probably have to buy those . From what I've observed people only want to trade such low LE for other low LE
2. Sounds reasonably fair to me , I'd give it a shot .
