New Maleficent Pin Set at DS.Com

People should really stop panicking.

- EU DS only ships to European addresses
- EU DS has pin releases every other Thursday and they are announced
- Note that EU stores always mark up the price in comparison to the US store (example: the Star Wars frame)
- Ergo: don't expect to pay the same price if you ask a European friend to order for you

I've been checking Maleficent threads trying to get any info I can on this set, stalking DisneyShopping.com for weeks now and staying up until midnight when the website refreshes... and FINALLY was able to purchase them early this morning. I won't believe it until I see them in my hot little hands!

I think they're pretty pins in an abstract/artsy way... I'm hoping the frames of the pins are nicer in person and substantial.

I don't care for these pins at all. I'm not too upset I missed on them. I probably would have second guessed buying them anyways. Designs aren't that great and don't really feature enough, too "impression"-istic if you ask me. I think they will not do as well as people think.

im so sad, i didnt get the set. i been waiting for so long... oh well. hopefully i can get it some way some how.

We are quite upset with the way the US Disney Store has been handling new pin releases for quite a while now. They really should announce when something new will be released, that way it is fair for all collectors. They already do this on the UK Disney Store, so I really do not understand why it is so hard to do the same thing on the US Disney Store. The second thing I do not agree with is the timing for new pin releases. New pins are always posted at 3:00 AM ET (12:00 AM PT). This is very unfair for residents living in the Eastern Time Zone since most people are sleeping at 3:00 AM ET. How do you guys feel?

As an east coaster, I could not agree more about the timing. Release at midnight EST time, or earlier, which is still a reasonable hour on the west coast. Or do random updates, like I have heard about them doing with the Frozen stuff.

More importantly, if you are just a casual pin trader, I don't know how you can ever get anything good, direct from Disney. The first time I really got the scoop on releases was when after I joined here and heard about the Frozen release. How is the average pin trader supposed to know that the disney website updates at 3am and if you are not awake then and checking the day of a release you might miss something ? I was shocked to hear people had to get up at 3am to get try and get pins. I would never occur to me to get in the middle in the night on the off chance there was pin released, if I had not joined here and read about it.

As a West Coaster who gets up at 5 a.m. on weekdays for work, midnight doesn't exactly work for me either. It would convenient to have it on a weekend, Saturday-Sunday midnight

But Disney isn't exactly about convenience too. I wonder why midnight is when it's programmed to update, etc. Does it have to do with GMT?

Unfortunately, as East Coasters, 3AM releases are something we have to deal with. Disney is far from the only company that does this. Most companies do it by their office's time zone. But remember, we get to see episodes before the Western people do, and if we have to call a company over there, they'll be open late for us, but close at 5 for them!

(And Woot updates [or used to, haven't checked in a while] at 1AM for the East coast, that always annoyed me, haha)

It's not just the East Coast. Releases are hard for everybody, or at least everybody who happens to have a schedule and/or responsibilities that prevent staying up freakishly late or waking up freakishly early. It's not like waking up at 2 a.m. is that much easier than waking up at 3. If you live any distance from a park, you're going to have significantly fewer opportunities to get in on releases. And I agree it sucks and I would vastly prefer announced releases like in the UK, but why is it always about playing the game of I Have It More Sucky Than You?

Not to mention wanting to just sleep peacefully lol.

Honestly, as an east coaster, I just get used to it. When I hear rumors of pins coming out that are supposedly "good" I make it a habit to wake up every Sunday around 3am, just in case. Is it sad, yes. Does it often ruin my sleep schedule when these "rumors" occur, yes. But ever since I was able to get a Frozen DS.com pin at cost from it, I don't doubt it's ability to help me get these pins.

That being said, I'm shocked this set was released so early. I was actually up last night at 3am but completely forgot to check DS.com and missed out  Thankfully a very kind forum member who was up with me but happened to get an extra set is helping me out so yay!
