A little over a month ago I was at Disneyland and in the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree area there were some cast members in front of a pin cart running a "panning for gold" game where you pull a coin from the sand and if it has Mickey ears on the back, you can trade one of your pins from a selection of pins that are presumably nicer than the standard pins you see cast members trading (I don't know as I never won, and they only let you play once a day). Anyway, I was there a few weeks ago and the Jamboree area was closed for some reason. Does anyone know if they are still doing this somewhere in the park?

They stopped it for the Halloween season. Now they have other games back there that are not pin-related. Like a ring toss and then you get your picture taken with a character in Halloween garb.

They do have a "bobbing for apples" game. There is a wooden bucket with fabric apples inside. Each has a pin under it. you close your eyes, choose an apple, look under it, and you are given the choice to trade for it or not. It was funny, one guy, when told what the game was called, asked "do you disinfect the apples every time?" They had to explain to him that you do not use your mouth, rather your hands.

Is this game available all day? I feel like everytime I walk through the ranch, I never see any of these games being played.

They don't really have a set time for the games, kind of at the discretion of the cast member. We were looking at their pin board when one of them said, " lets make them bob for apples!" And they started the game for the few of us there. Never hurts to ask if they have any games going.

the game sruff was only supposed to be for the summer as I understand it. They did it as a sort of attempt to pull us traders back there when the removed the westward Ho tables.

Yeaaaaah... That didn't work. I did love the fact that it was nice and shady over there, but the games could have been better and for better pins. Anyone remember the old 3 min. Pin board carts, or the hidden treasure pins in the mini treasure chests??? Lots more fun! They should bring those back.

I got this far....

and thought GROSS you pick up apples that other people's mouths have been on!?!

Then I read the rest.

That panning for gold game was cool and you got legit prizes. I got a PP Finding Nemo PODM and a friend of mine got the AP Tower of Terror unlock the magic key 5 months before the pin was even released and its still not even released.
