I bought Pin 79459 off eBay UK and it arrived this morning. I think it may be a scrapper though. There's already a possible scrapper alert on the PinPics listing, but I'd just like more confirmation from members here before I go to get a refund off the seller.

First of all, there's a border going around the back of the pin. Second of all, there's dips in the paint, although they're not that noticable. Lastly, the black area of the background has that weird streaky finish when you hold it up to the light.

Could some who bought the pin direct from Disney please check out if their pin has any of these signs? The reason I'm not 100% certain that it's a scrapper is because the same seller has other Walt Disney Classic collection pins on sale. They're all listed as new, but all individually. And there doesn't seem to be scrapper alerts on the other pins just yet.

Please help!

I've never seen this pin in person, but as a rule, if it's a Mickey head back, and there is a border, it's counterfeit. (I have occasionally seen legit WDI icecream cone back pins that have what seem like a border on one side - but it's a flat border, like there just wasn't anything there, not like the pattern was pressed down into the metal.)

It is a Mickey head back. I'm aware that that is the most obvious sign of a scrapper. I just want to be 100% sure before I demand a refund off this person, hence why I'm wanting someone who's bought the pin direct from Disney to let me know how theirs looks.

Only one person has mentioned that this pin may be a scrapper due to the quality of the pin on pinpics. I have seen many a bad quality pin released by the parks and every other place, so quality is no longer the dead give away for a scrapper. This pin is a limited edition of 2000, and requires a magnet, which takes more work, so it does not fit the pattern of pins that are usually counterfeited or scrapped. But you are right in wanting to confirm it with someone else who has this pin, because one never knows anything these days.

I just opened my trader package that I bought at the park and removed that pin. The back of the pin has Mickey heads that run off the edges. The front is very crisp and defined and there are no color streaks. Sorry, but I think that one might be a scrapper.

I don't have the pin in front of me, but I know that my set, purchased directly from Disney in December, was having quality issues with Alice's eyes on all of the pins (Alice has no pupils). Not sure about the border though.

For what it's worth when I was checking these sets out on the racks, they didn't look to be of the highest quality. And people were opening the packages and putting doubles of the same pin inside

I just looked at the pin that's in my husband's collection. I bought the set for him when I was at DLR.

There are mickey heads on the back of the pin that run off the edge. There is a border on the front of the pin but not on the back. However, as mentioned in other posts above, Disney's quality control has not been the best lately, so you don't necessarily have a scrapper.

Masamune, you mention that there's a scrapper alert on the PinPics listing. I just looked at the listing and didn't see any alert on there.

I have this pin, I bought the set from WDW. My Mickey heads run off the back, but there is a ridge that runs along the edge. So in some ways it does look like there is a border. But not a border that you typically find on the counterfeit pins. It's just a ridge, of about 1mm or less. I took a picture, so you can see. It looks kind of borderish on the lower left, and the right middle.

Hopemax, your picture is very similar to what my husband's pin looks like on the back.

To add to my previous post, I've even noticed more problems with DSF pins lately. There are times I have to go through a few to find one to my liking.

Hmm. I don't know what to think now. The back of mine looks basically identical to yours hopemax. The quality on the front just isn't very good. How would you rate the quality of yours on the front?

@ Margaret - I would describe my colours as crisp too. And the streaks are only visible when held to the light.

@ rumtumtigger - It's in a comment that someone has put if you scroll down.

I'm really not happy with the pin, even if it is genuine. So maybe I should just get a refund. It was advertised as New, and I don't think the quality reflects it as being New.

My pin has a bit of the streakiness if looked at, in the light at the right angle. I think it's just the way these pins are. It doesn't seem any particularly worse than a lot of pins though. The gold along the front seems a little rough in spots, reminds me of some of the quality issues surrounding the PT52 pins. Sometimes I think the scrapper warnings make people hyper sensitive. Pins from the early days, still have streaks, still have some dips. The scrappers are usually in a class by themselves, though. You can tell just by touch that there is something wrong. This pin still feels smooth and glossy. My pin went from package to frame, I wouldn't put the flaws from my pin on a seller though.

That's the most important thing - scrapper, counterfeit, or genuine, if you are not happy with it, you should get the refund.

yes..in the end..you have to b happy...if you dont like it...send it back... as far as the back....or for any pin,,,, think of the diffrence betwen a sheet of mickey heads and a mold.... the real disney pin...is cut from a sheet...so the ears or back mark lines up any wear... sumtimes even looking like a bad edge cuz it was a blank spot. Thats not th esame as a ridge around the whole pin from a mold.. the ppl making fakes are dumb and not the same shops as real pins...or they would cut them and not make a mold. so if it has a small apot with nothing on it...thats not a ridge from a mold...and not a sign of a fake.... if its all around the back and the lines are not strait..or the ears are diffrent size...its beacuse its from a mold.....just a heads up....its easy to get tricked if you look fast..

"Its All About The Pins"

I contacted the Seller the raise my concerns. They assured me that the pin was brand new from Walt Disney World. So...I'm just going to keep it. It's a nice enough pin, just not good quality. I can't really blame the seller for the poor quality, assuming that it's not a scrapper. Thanks for the help everyone.

It's a shame, because it would be a beautiful pin otherwise. I think I'm satisfied that what I bought isn't a scrapper though, thanks to everyone's help.

Even though I've decided to keep it regardless, I figured I may as well show you the pin I was concerned with. You can't really see all the quality issues with it on the picture. The main one you can see is at the bottom right of the tree. There's dips in the paint around those 2 lines at the right of the door.
