Pin Binder vs Pin Trading book. Which One?

Hey DPF,

So I have been to events, meets, trading tables, etc, and i'm tying to figure out what I the best way to display the pin for the events. I have seen many traders with the pin binders and sleeves (used to hold baseball cards) and I have also many with the regular pin book. So my question is which do you prefer and why? I like to display my pins on the original card backing it looks easer to do that with the pin binder, however I think I can display more in the book. Also I have received many pins in the mail with the plastic baggy envelope where can I find these? Thanks!

I put my pins that are on the original cards in the binders ... I found the pin trading bags to be a bit of a hassle with pins coming loose from the pages etc.
 
Since I always traded in the parks, basically none of my pins have their original cards, so I always used a pin book. However, if I had heard about the binder idea earlier, I probably would have done that! (And maybe would have kept a small book for my extra-special pins.)
 
I use binders with the sleeves for trading because it keeps the cards from getting bent and the pins don't fall out as easily as they do in the books. but you are right, the binders don't hold as many. However, I use the books for my collection because I think they look nicer. I get the baggies from A.C. Moore, but I'm sure most craft stores would sell them. Both also, i found the bags in various sizes at JoAnns craft store, also Walmart carries a few sizes in their craft section also. Hope this helps
 
I totally forgot about this, but one thing I did for the last pin event was neither a pin book, nor a pin binder. I had a binder for my on-card pins, but for my off-card (or never-had-a-card) pins, I did this:

I bought a roughly 8.5" x 11" plastic tupperware tub, a bit over 2" deep. Kind of like this, but a little taller:



Then I bought a bunch of foam sheets from the craft store and cut them to size.



Fill a foam sheet with pins and put it in the bottom of the tub, then lay a blank foam sheet on top. Repeat until you've filled the tub. When I've put in as many layers as I can, I pad the top with plastic bags so the pin layers don't shift around. This worked really well at the event, as I could spread the sheets all over the table; no one needed to flip any pages to see them all
 
I'm switching to pin binders with the plastics pages. At events I really don't enjoy when people start touching my pins. I figured it was common sense to first ask whether you could touch a pin but apparently I'm weird like that. I was at a PTN once and someone touched all of my pages and pins in my regular pin bag and she had a huge cold, sneezing up in my book and such. No thanks.
 
I prefer the pin book, tried the binder and didn't work for me. Too many odd sized pins not fitting the card sleeve and it got thick quickly and wouldn't close right. It felt like too much pressure was being put on the pins. Others love them though!

Ewww, I'm so sorry that's gross. Was This at a Paris PTN? I always ask before Touching, it's just manners, but I understand the hygiene aspect. Haven't actually bright out large amounts of pins to trade before- but now I know if I do that this is a prime example of why to go with a protected route.
 
I use Case-It notebooks that zip up for my pins. They come in different thicknesses depending on how many pins you want to put in each book. For best selections, purchase when school supplies are out. I purchased mine at Staples, but have heard that Big Lots has them. As far as what pages to use for notebooks, I personally found Ultra-Pro to be the best. Besides the 9/page ones, they have 3/page, 4/paqe and 2/page that can be used for the larger cards from Disney Shopping and Auctions.
 
thanks for this suggestion. just curious, have you ever used the largest 4 inch d ring case it? does that work better than the round rings? i am going to try this out instead of my older pin books but would love to know your thoughts on this. i will probably order through amazon .
 
For those that use the binders with the cards could you please explain how you put them in the sleeves and secure them?
I have see some that people put the pin and card in the sleeve then poke the pin through the back of the sleeve then put on the rubber thing, don't know what it is called.
I would also like to know how you load your binder to fit the most pages in?
How many pages of pins are you able to get in the binder?
Do you put protection interleaves between the pages with pins?
I am new to all this and am trying the binder way but can't find the best way to use them. I have a 5" binder and can only get 4 or 5 pages in before it will not close.
