Pin Numbers and Cards?

I have noticed that people display pins on boards or display cases, yet they will know the exact pin number? How do people keep track of them? I know you can find #s on pinpics. but I also know that it might be difficult with just a description.

Also, if you don't have the actual cards they came on, is there a place you can buy a "plain" card to put one on?

I use small sticky tabs like these (http://www.staples.com/Post-it-1-2-Flags-with-Pop-Up-Dispenser/product_SS975428) to write the pin number and attach it to the card. That way if I ever want to put them back on the card I can just look up the number on pinpics. I'm not really sure if this saves time in the long run but it works for me.

I categorize the backing cards in zip lock bags and have little notes attached to each card with a description of the pin. That way it's easy to find the pin card quick ^^
