Pin numbers ??

I have never seen a pin's number stamped on the back of it. With that said, I have a bunch of pins that I would like to add to my have, want and trade lists but I have no idea which series or collection they are from. It takes forever to visually search through all the pin groups in hopes of finding a match. How do the pins get assigned numbers if they aren't stamped on the pins themselves? What is the easiest way to track down a pin when you don't know the pin's number?

There is no easy way. Go to pinpics and try to find it by description.

The "pin number" is simply the number it was given when it was added to the Pinpics database. The numbers don't mean anything other than the order they were originally added. The first pin added became pin #1, second pin #2, etc. Pins that were produced a long time ago might have a bigger number than a newer pin if the newer pin was added to the database first.

Like everyone else has said, use the search feature. Only beware, the search isn't that great. If a pin has text on it, it usually is easier to search. But searching for Mickey or Chip or China (if you have an Epcot pin) will produce hundreds or thousands of results. The search categories can narrow it down some, like if you know the pin you have was only released at Disneyland. But you will have to spend a lot of time looking.

To add to Lauren's post, you can also look at the left of your screen on Pinpics and click on Pin Groups, it may be listed there (I use that feature if I can't find the pin I'm looking for by specific description). If you just have *no clue* as to where the pin is from and don't see it in a Pin Group, I would just type in the character's name, movie name or whatever in the bottom box and leave all the boxes unchecked. Sometimes *more* pins in your category pop up than what's listed in the Pin Group for that category.
