After pin trading at DLR and WDW extensively, I'll be taking my first Disney Cruise in a couple of months. How is the pin trading on the ships? Do crew members wear lanyards? Are there trading boards? I'm so used to the parks, this is a new adventure and I'm just wondering what to expect and would appreciate any tips for successful trading on the ships.

There's probably much less pin trading on a cruise compared to the parks but there are pins (and trading) on board. I'm not sure about currently but in the past they have a night set aside where you can trade pins with the ship officers, the DVC kiosk and stores also have trading but you may have to ask them for a lanyard/board/book if they're busy. There's also special pins to buy in the stores that aren't available anywhere else as well. :D

Just got off the Disney Wonder 7 day cruise and can give my experience there.

Pin trading was possible each day. several crew members in the shops wore hip lanyards, and usually one in the lobby had a lanyard. Each night they brought a pin book out for a 1/2 hour, and on the last night there were 6-8 officers with lanyards in the lobby for a 1/2 hour. On our cruise they were selling PWP mystery puzzle pins and it seemed that many on our cruise bought these and traded them, so were were able to finish the 6 pin puzzle by the end of the cruise.

The variety of pins was similar to what is found daily in Disneyland, with a few more WDW pins, and a few more DCL pins thrown in.

Be sure and look for any clearance pins in the shops as there were some for as low as 2.99 (2011 pins now that it is 2012)

I brought about 25 pins and could have traded more than that. Did not see any individuals trading with each other in any organized or large way.
