Someone on Reddit posted about an app they made to help traders at Disneyland (No WDW, no word on if there ever will be).

Hello everyone. Long time lurker, here. I just finished up writing my first iPhone app. Since my wife and kids enjoy pin trading so much, it seemed like a neat first app to try writing. The basic idea behind it is it's a listing of pin traders, broken down into areas (Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney). If you tap on a trader, it loads up a photo of the cast member pin board. From inside the app, you can take a photo of a pin board, which is then uploaded to the pin trader, replacing the existing photo. This new pin board is now loaded anytime someone else using the app taps on that pin trader. This allows anyone using the app to see the current (when enough people are using it) pins on a pin board, by using typical gestures for pinch to zoom, and swipe panning.
In addition to people actually in the park, it would allow people not in the park to see the pin boards. If they have a friend in the park that day, they might find a pin they've been looking for and could have their friend go trade for it.
Another function in the app is a map. If you're in the park, it uses the iPhone's GPS ability and shows your position as well as map pins for the surrounding pin traders. Tap on the pin and it'll show you the pin trader name. So if you're not super familiar with the location of a pin trader, this will help you locate it.
Obviously for all of this to work, it'll require pin traders to go around and snap photos of pin boards. It works kind of like those Disney ride wait time programs needing people to submit wait times.
The app is a free download, but does have in-app ads. There are no in-app purchases. I'd really like feedback on the app from the pin trading community, and would love new ideas to add.
The name of the app is Pinja. If I do this right, here's a link: Pinja

Didn't someone here have a hard time even making a pin app because Disney blocked it? Or was it blocked more because it was a database of pins?

Anyone who goes to DL want to give it a try and see how it is?

Hey guys. This is actually my app that I made. If anyone downloads it and has any comments or suggestions, I'd really like to hear them.

I spent several trips at Disneyland, and all the cast members were more than happy to let me take photos of their pin boards. Some even did some goofy stuff like hold it up like it was their own head (since most pin boards are a Mickey head). I'm hopeful that they're ok with it, since there's no Disney specific artwork in the app, other than the pins on the pin board images which were taken by myself, my wife, and a friend who was testing the app for me.

Since it was just approved by Apple a couple days ago, there's not a lot of downloads yet. It'll probably be a few weeks (hopefully!) before there's enough people that are using it so the pin boards are getting updated. My wife is planning on going pin trading in a week or two, so she'll have the app on her phone and will be updating photos. I'm hopeful that others will be as well, but we'll see!

Good luck with your app! Sounds helpful to the frequent traders down there!

:)

Thanks Ninpin and JASBG! I'm sure hoping it'll be helpful.

And JASBG, I'll be looking to add a WDW version as soon as I can. If nothing else, it'll give me an excuse to go to WDW. I've never been there before, and would love to go.

Cool idea, hope to see one for WDW if the DL version works out :)

As it turns out, someone who lives in the Florida area asked to help out and has been providing photos for WDW trading spots. I just uploaded a bunch of Magic Kingdom locations into the app about an hour ago, and will be working on Animal Kingdom and Epcot, shortly.

I've also got an app update already sent to Apple which adds the WDW parks to the sorting options, so you can sort the listing by park. I'm hoping the update will be approved any day now.
