If there was a DPF auction for a one night stay at the Grand Californian Hotel would you be interested? Poll is anonymous so please respond, your input is important. :wavey:

I think it would depend on if you got to choose your night there. I have stayed there before and it is really nice!

You bet I would, probably wouldn't win but I would give it a shot!!

My wife just won 4 one day WDW hopper passes in a silent auction so we will be going there sometime this summer, probably in October is what I'm thinking.

You wouldn't be able to pick the night it would be either Jan 29th or 30th. I know there are a lot of people that would love to spend a night there but because its ummmm around $500.00 a NIGHT eek! That's for a standard room with a view of something like the parking lot lol, it's not something that a lot of us can swing easily.

Keep those votes rolling and start checking your traders, your artwork or other awesome items for potential bids!

I wish I could! Jan 30th is my Birthday! Sorry to say I would not be able to go there on that day however.

I would prefer to pay the cost in Dollars. Just because I don't want to miss the pins for a one-night experience (not that I have a lot of pins anyway) And to be honest I don't think the poll options are right, I would vote for the ''no''-option but I don't want to say that the Grand-Floridian sucks.

Oh I forgot to say...
500$ ? that is quite reasonable. If you book a room-only hotel stay at DLP you would pay a lot more. Around 500€(700$) a night for the second best hotel. A package including tickets is around the same price however because of promotions/reductions.

I do not know if this type of auction could happen, as while we understand some people putting up things like Disney Ornaments, figurines, etc, a hotel stay is a lot different for multiple reasons.

@Allie.Pin, reasonable is subjective and not everyone will agree on what that number is. If you can afford to spend that kind of money then by all means its reasonable, if you cannot then of course it's not. There is a large percentage of the members here that have never stayed at a Disney property because of the cost associated with doing so is not affordable for them. I was lucky enough to have a business conference there and was afforded a great price and rather than just sell it to someone somewhere I wanted to offer it up to any locals or other members that would be interested in a micro vacation without spending any cash to do so.

@BB, I have sent you a PM.

@ everyone else I hope that this can work out and that someone here can enjoy the room/resort/pools etc.

On a side side note, I will also be staying at the hotel on those dates if anyone wants to meet up, trade, have drinks/coffee or just to get a look at me and my family in person (my son (28) and my daughter Joy (11) will be terrorizing the parks) kidding I have great kids, they wouldn't have survived this long if they weren't lol.

If I had something worthy of bidding, I would in a heart beat! :D I want to go to California and DLR SO bad! That would be a great way to make the trip a little more affordable! :D If you do an auction, I wish you the best of luck, I think you will get a LOT of great things! :)

Your right the cost is high and not affordable to me with my pay wage esp. since we are not at the hotel that much but if I didn't have to pay for the room I would love to stay there and you get your own entry into to the park.

There are two nights available, I am thinking two different people could each stay one night so that I can spread the love around.

This is not just a hypothetical it is already paid for so if you are interested in staying either the 29th or 30th feel free to PM me to discuss it. I want to be fair and give everyone the same opportunity. So whether it's an auction or best offer situation everyone will know what is going on.

Have a great day!

Waiting on an official ruling from the MODS but as soon as I hear the verdict I will let you know!

We have been talking about it and had a couple of questions.

1) Is this the SAME room you are in, an adjoining room (door connecting to your room), or a room unattached to your room?

2) If the auction was to occur, as it must be open to ALL board members, what happens if the winner is a "minor", like a trader who is 16/17?

Thx
Bill

RESPONSE TO BILL

1) Is this the SAME room you are in, an adjoining room (door connecting to your room), or a room unattached to your room?

ANSWER:
I will NOT be in the same room. It is a completely separate room. I am unsure if it will be adjoining or not as I have two separate reservations. I cannot say whether it will be a room next to mine, whether they have usable adjoining doors between rooms or that it will even be on the same floor as my room. The hotel is one of the sponsors of the conference, they say that they do not make blocks of rooms for conferences but most hotels that sponsors these try to keep people on the same floor and or areas but again I cannot guarantee where this particular room will be in relation to mine. Should it be an adjoining room both sides would have locks on each side and would not pose a privacy issue.

2) If the auction was to occur, as it must be open to ALL board members, what happens if the winner is a "minor", like a trader who is 16/17?

ANSWER: Should the winning bidder be a minor they would be required to have a parent or guardian accompany and remain with them at the hotel as well as signing a statement that their child has permission to participate in the auction and that they will be responsible for their child BEFORE bidding. Having someone over the age of 18 but not their parent or legal guardian will not be accepted.

Realistically no one under 18 should be allowed to bid on ANY auction, on this site or any other as they are legally prohibited from doing so and because of that alone I should be able restrict my auction to only members that are of legal age as requiring me to break the law is unacceptable. This site and it's members have an expectation for all auctions/transactions be they the person running it or the person bidding on it, to honor both their "offers" or "bids" however, minors offering ANYTHING be they on either side of the transaction is illegal without their parents written permission.

I have been very clearly and very publicly opposed to the position that this is a "family forum" because I do not think minors should be allowed to, much less encouraged to exchange private and very detailed (name/ADDRESS etc.) information with total strangers be that in a trade, auction or any other type of transaction. As a parent, if I found out that my child was allowed to join, use and participate on a web forum that allowed/encouraged them to share that type of information and property I would sue them......and I would be on the correct side of the law btw.

As it has been a long time since I joined this site, I forget if there was any sort of age requirement to join, if there was this issue is moot as ALL members stated that they were 18 or older when joining. If there wasn't/isn't, maybe it should be mentioned to the owners of the site as means to minimize their potential legal liability.

Please feel free to ask any further questions you may have.

UPDATE

I jus saw this comment on another auction thread so it's clear that you all already know that it is illegal for minors to participate so I'm not really sure why you asked me about 16/17 year olds at all.

BY FORDRACING31:
You are correct. That is StitchinWonderland's brother who is 10 years old so we advised that the auction be held under StitchinWonderland's account until we got more information about minors and contracts (since auctions are trade contracts) Hope this helps.

How exciting! I hope you can get approved! This would be a fun and heated auction to watch for sure!

Still waiting for an official ruling. Hopefully it will come down soon as I would want to start it ASAP so people can have time to plan.

you should have had other options.. lol

I would vote no. I try not to bid pins on non pin items. Besides the fact that I KNOW how pricey the hotel can be and I do not have nice enough pins for trade... For me, pins are for pins.

The hotel is exceptional BTW folks. I LOVE going into the lobby just to listen to the piano player.

I'm still considering my own position on the proposed auction, but just a note on minors: This is NOT my area of law, so this is NOT a legal opinion, but my basic understanding is that minors can enter into contracts. The issue is whether the contract is enforceable (ie. can you sue?) if the minor breaches the contract.

Sounds like a great prize. I have a few questions, to make sure I understand what is proposed:

1. The room is for Jan.29 or Jan.30 - would the exact date be known before the auction began?
2. Would you be checking in yourself, with the winner added as an additional occupant for the purposes of registration, or would the reservation be transferred to the winner's name? (I ask because in the first scenario your credit card would be on file to cover any charges/problems, while in the second scenario the winner would be required to put a credit card on file.)
3. Did you personally pay for the night? If your employer paid for it, is your employer OK with the use you intend to make of it?
4. I assume that this room was obtained at a special corporate/conference rate - is Disney OK with the use you intend to make of it?

Yes the date would be listed in the description.
2. Would you be checking in yourself, with the winner added as an additional occupant for the purposes of registration, or would the reservation be transferred to the winner's name? (I ask because in the first scenario your credit card would be on file to cover any charges/problems, while in the second scenario the winner would be required to put a credit card on file. The registration would be in my name and they would be an occupant. I am not concerned about charges or anything else because you can request that no charges be allowed to the room and I would do that. If someone wants room service or something else they would just pay with cash or their credit card. I want to believe I can trust whoever wins but I would also ask them to sign something to the effect that they are responsible for their own expenses.
3. Did you personally pay for the night? If your employer paid for it, is your employer OK with the use you intend to make of it? I personally paid for the room with my own credit card.
4. I assume that this room was obtained at a special corporate/conference rate - is Disney OK with the use you intend to make of it?
I paid a conference rate for the room and am basically inviting someone to stay in it. The point of either trading or auctioning use of the room is to offset some of the cost (pins/art or whatever will not cover it all) as well as give every single member an equal chance at winning it. I am genuinely trying to pass along a fabulous opportunity to other members, and if someone else was offering the same thing I would be interested for sure.
