Just wondering what you should do when you're traded a scrapper. Unfortunately I like a lot of the hidden mickey pins and know they can easily be fakes. I have a lot of "unpopular" pins that I've been trading for them and just wanted to know what ya'll do when you accidentally get a scrapper. Do you request your pin back or ask for another pin to be sent to you? Thanks!!

Good question. I think it would behoove you to have photos and some assurance you aren't talking about a scrapper before you receive it. I have to say it's not always easy to identify a scrapper on some pins. Some are obvious, others not so much unless you have a real one in your possession.

The key is communication. Tell your trading partner that you think they have sent you a scrapper pin. Don't accuse them of anything, even long time veterans do make mistakes sometimes. I know I have. Then ask your trading partner what they would like to do. If you are civil about things I find most people will make it right, either by returning pins or sending you a replacement.

I have this problem in the parks, as I am a sucker for children who want to trade with me. I never turn them down and I generally let them pick any of my pins, as I don't wear my special/LE pins for long days in the parks anyways. Just the other day a little girl asked to trade with me while I was eating lunch. She picked a nice Tinker Bell pin and I got, you guessed it, a scrapper. While it's always a bit of a bummer to get a scrapper, it still made me feel good to hear her chortling away to her family about her awesome trade.

I was curious about this as well. I was so excited when I saw a Robin Hood coin I was missing in someone's book, but it wasn't until I placed it next to my real ones that it was suddenly very obvious that it didn't belong.
Unless I was especially attached to the pin I traded, I just kind of chalk these things up to the hazards of trading and kick myself a little for liking hidden mickey pins. (And hey, at least I've got one more scrapper out of circulation, so that's okay.)

So it's not just me
I never would have had the confidence to go up to a stranger when I was a kid :)
