We just got back from Disney and in our pin trading we traded a pin that said PRST on the back... Does anyone know what this abbreviation means. We were under the impression that the pin was really rare.

If I had to guess (and it is a guess), it stands for "Pin *something* S-e-T"- the ST stands for set so they know if, for some reason, the set gets separated that they're looking for a 2-pin set. No idea what the "r" would stand for, though...

Once again- just a guess.

Sorry, but I'm willing to bet it's a scrapper. It probably should say FIRST RELEASE on the back. Just my guess since you don't say what pin it is.

Should I be able to click on that pin above....cause I can't...But I have a feeling that is what it is...It's Cinderella in the dress that the mice made her

A fake, counterfeit, or a pin that was bad that should have been "scrapped" at the factory but was instead stolen and sold to some unsuspecting buyer.

Hadn't heard that yet...anyone know why they would put that on the back? It seems like a lot of effort to stamp something that you don't *have* to stamp anyway...

Weird.

It looks like they were trying to stamp "FIRST RELEASE" similar to the Tiana scrapper we saw last year.

Sounding like it may be fake. Hope this doesn't sour your experience! If you look around the board, there are a ton of threads with good advice on spotting fakes.

It doesn't bother me if it's fake...I didn't buy it...we got it through a trade with a cast member at Disney....Do the cast members not care that it's fake...and how do you know that all PRST pins are scrappers....like I said it doesn't matter to me if it's fake or not...we aren't trying to sell it...It will just disappoint hubby because he thought he found something really special.

Ahahaha! The "PRST" is supposed be "FIRST"? Without even trying for the "release" part of it? Wowwww...

These guys are real under-achievers, aren't they?

From PinPics:

SCRAPPER: Traded for Cinderella @ WDW from CM. Says "PRST RELEASE" on back. Eyes are empty and dress shoulder strap on left side is the same color as her hair.

I should note I haven't seen this pin myself, so I have no idea personally what it says. But I agree wholeheartedly with you. These guys are serious under-achievers. Though I'm glad they make it easy for us to spot them sometimes. lol... pathetic.

Unfortunately, it's hugely common. This is what happens:

New (or dishonest) traders/families see huge lots of Disney pins on eBay for cheap (usually sold directly from China). They buy these lots, and use them to trade with cast members on their vacations. Ergo, the cast members end up with lanyards full of junk.

As for the caring part, sometimes they don't know/can't tell. We also assume they've been instructed to take them and not say "no" to a guest....especially since a many of the ones doing it are families or newbies that don't even *know* they're buying scrappers.

I feel bad for those who trade with CMs...I usually don't, because they don't usually carry pins I'm interested in. But for those who collect Hidden Mickeys...it's a tough road.

only the CMs that collect...will know all about the pins. If u are nice and talk to the CM.. u will find that many of them want to know more and will ask u sum stuff to help them tell the fakes. also if u see a bad pin and point it out nicely.. i have had many CMs take the pin off and turn it in to the lead. no telling what happens.. but its nice that sum CM do care. Heads up on trading with any one even if not a CM...Its ok to ask to hold the pin and check it out...than if u see its a bad pin..u can just say no tank u.. dont have to make a big deal..its ur call on telling them its bad or not. but this will save u the trouble of getting a bad pin..many memebers here will help if u think u have a bad pin or just want to learn more of how to tell. once u learn sum things..its not to hard to spot the bad ones... good luck
