Question About LE Pins

That's DLR only. Apparently WDW gets 13 event villains and we get generic crests with shadows. Thanks! :dislike:

Yes... agreed 100%.

Although the six surprise pins for 2012 were all villains (but nothing in comparison to WDWs Villain Countdown pins)... for 2013, I think I prefer the surprise crest pins at DLR better than the surprise "remember when" pins they're releasing over at WDW. Meh, now that I think about it, neither surprise series is really knocking my socks off.

My thoughts on LE sizes-

Back in the early days of pins LE sizes were huge, an LE 10,000 sold out within days if not hours and most LEs were 5000 or 7500 with "rare" pins being 1000.. because people collected 'it all' because there wasn't that much to choose from. Over time people went from 'needing everything' to needing 'their collection theme' and large LEs started to sit on the racks because less of the 'community' needed that pin for their collection or to trade others so edition sizes started to drop and certain themes became over or under used simply due to $$$.

Then you add the 'inside/outside community' theory gets added in on how many of a pin is available to trade/purchase of the 'edition size' whether LE or Open- Some pins have a high 'inside' count which means of the 100% of the pins made 80-90% stay within the trading community which keeps them 'in trade play' so if its a LE 1000 and 800 stay tradeable/purchasable one has a great shot on getting the pin fairly easy. Other pins have a low 'inside' count where the pins sat on the racks and were purchased by non-traders who liked it but have no reason to trade it/sell it (so they are in boxes/trash/yardsales etc) and so of the original 1000 only 400 stay tradeable/purchaseable which makes it harder to acquire..

For example- Piece of Movie pins- When they came out they sat on the racks for weeks and so many of the first ones ended up outside the trade community which causes them to be much harder to find than the last bunch because most of those ended up within the community...

I'm a huge believer in when the time is right you'll get a pin for the right price/trade sometimes it just takes a long time... For instance a pin I've had my eye on since it was released in 2008 and always sold for 70+ on the bay and Pinpics ratio is 1 to 87 I acquired last week for a total cost of 14.00 after shipping.

Sadly, it's the whole concept of supply and demand. Having low edition sizes, while I don't like it either and I don't know anyone who does, allows Disney to charge more for the pins from the start and keeps people interested in pins while Disney releases NEW pins for people to fawn over. If every pin anyone ever wanted was OE, people would just pay for that pin, get it, and some would soon get bored of pin trading because there is so constant searching for great pins since you can just buy them for $10 and it isn't like anyone will want to buy it from you since they can just buy their own.

It sucks that the best pins are really hard and limited, I know having just started out last September, but we don't make the rules and beggars can't be choosers >_<
