I've read that the Mickey-head waffle pattern on fake pins has a "border" around the edges of the pin, whereas on legit pins the pattern extends to the edge of the pin. Has this always been true? I have some 2009 pins with the "border" on them. I have 5 of these pins, and every one has the "border". PinPics does NOT indicate that there are fakes/scrappers of this pin (though I realize PinPics doesn't always list whether a pin has been faked in the past).

Unfortunately, two of these pins I just purchased from a seller on this forum who is still listing a large number of pins for sale.

FYI, this is the pin. I have 3 of the 4 different pins in this series, and they all have the "border".

I'm afraid I don't know about these specific pins but Disney's QC has plummeted recently and I've had standard rack pins purchased by myself at the parks with a border . Do you have pictures of the actual pins you've got ?

I too have purchased a very small number of pins directly from DSSH and Disneyland where the pins had boarders. The majority of my pins that I have directly purchased, however, do not have boarders. It used to be a good tell, but now it is not a 100% indicator of a fake. The best thing to do if you are not certain is to do what you have done, and seek out advice from other traders. I personally do not have any information about the pins that you have questions about. Hopefully you can get your answers.
