Hello! I have been wondering this for a very long time so I figured I would ask. What makes the Reveal/Conceal girls so expensive? They are not LE according to pin pics so why is there so many people trying to obtain them? Is there something special about them that I am missing?! Also where are all of the people who originally bought them, do they still have them or do you think most of them are lost forever?
Thanks! Sorry for the ramble I just don't understand!

The reveal/conceal girls were only released once. Most limited release pins are released multiple times, like the pixar boxes. So there are tons of them on the market. Also unlike most releases today where people buy them out the first day, the reveal/conceal girls sat on the racks for weeks(maybe a month or 2). Nobody really cared for them when they first came out, then a lot of people realized how nice they were in person. Most of them were probably sold to tourists or random pin collectors who just collect for fun and don't pin trade like a lot of older DSF stuff. Plus princesses are the most sought after pins right now. I wasn't collecting when they were released, but this is what I have heard from people who were buying them at the time. Who knew they'd be so sought after :dunno:

The only one that was actively sought after during the time of their release was Rapunzel. And at the time she was worth quite a bit ($50-$100) compared to the retail value. Now she sells for 15x that. There has been a major influx of newer Princess traders in recent years which has majorly impacted the sales and demand of princess pins.

I have to agree that a lot of people began to see them in person and realized how pretty they were in comparison to the pictures online. Especially when people had the entire set together, a lot of people saw the appeal of these pins and it just exploded.

I had many of these pins that I bought at DLR and sadly they sat in my pin book for quite a while before I sold them off for 'cheaper' prices. Boy do I wish I held on to them! Especially the Rapunzel I had!!!

When they started doing these mystery boxes, ODPT originally had edition sizes for the number of boxes for some of the sets, then they got changed to "limited release." I think Disney wanted the option that they could reorder, but the only one that ever has been re-ordered was the Reveal Conceal Family Portraits.

The "yearly" series like the PT52 pins, the stamps, the animation set, and this year's Pixar's set are a little different, in that I think Disney does want the large set per year to last most of the year. So they do reorder those.

Anyway, I remember some of those original mystery boxes on ODPT saying that there was somewhere between 2000-3500 boxes available. 2 pins per box, divided by the number of pins in the series and you can work out that all these so called "limited release" pins are pretty low LE in reality. It's accepted for the R/C Girls, but it doesn't quite seem to have sunk in for the other mystery box or R/C sets released at the same time, that those are just as rare as the R/C Girls...

I have no idea why either. They're nice, but they're not absolutely incredible works of art that represent any scenes in movies, attractions at the Parks, nothing.
The current princess "Crest" jeweled OE pins on the racks now look just as nice to me, yet they sit there ignored. Perhaps in 10 years they'll also be $500 each.:dunno:

I definitely don't feel there's a comparison between the crest pins and r/c girls. R/C girls may not represent a particular scene from a movie, but it's the overall look that appeals to so many. Princesses are very sort after and the R/C's present them in a very feminine and sparkly fashion lol. Many people like sparkly pins too.

The jewels used on some of the R/Cs look better than the crest jewels too. I tried working on getting a set, but quickly went broke when I brought Meg, Aurora, Esmeralda & Jasmine. Now all I have left is Esmeralda and Aurora and I've really just been trying to make back what I put into them.

What I was told is that the R/C pins had a huge number of the boxes disappear. Not all of the boxes ordered were ever sold and nobody seems to know where the missing boxes went to. There were supposed to have been cases of them that went missing. Which leads to the scarcity of them.

I was also told that limited release pins are usually limited to a specific number as well; varying between 6000-10,000 usually. I'm sure the number is different for every series though. It seems like the r/c girls are quite rare compared to other r/c sets.
