Just a question I have to poll the folks out there. If you have "Event Only" pins and say they are LE 1000's or so, BUT were only available at the Event (over 10 years ago) which you paid a few hundred dollars to attend PLUS the price of the pin(s). How would you compare them to say a Mystery box Chaser pin that is LE 250 or so, but the box sales are open to the general public??

I have had a few Trades almost done but folks did not want to do it based just on the LE #'s. To me I would have to look beyond the LE comparisons and take into consideration the age of the pins and the "Event" status also. What do you think??

I'd say unless you're dealing with an older (meaning long-term, not age) trader who understands the rarity of older pins, most current/newer collectors will just look at price and edition size to determine value.

I think for me I don't know all of those details and they aren't always on places like pinpics. So for me value is always on if it's something for my long term collection. I've traded many different LEs with different edition numbers against each other.

I think one really just had to value a pin at what they value it at. Of you can't get a good trade for it I would put it up for sale I think and also explain it was a pin only at an attended event. I think as a buyer it would affect how they also value it.

I think it comes down to rarity, i.e. how many of each pin are available on the market. My understanding is the event pins that are not sold at the event are destroyed by Disney, so theoretically there may be less than 1,000 of an LE 1000 event pin in circulation. However, I also think that event pins are more likely to be available for trading/buying since the people who attend the events tend to be active traders, whereas when the average tourist buys a Disney pin, it may end up in the trash or the bottom of a box in their closet. Thus, I think the event pins may actually be easier to find than some of the other pins.

I've noticed over the past years that DLR event pins are available to the public after the event until they sell out, same as DSSH. Event pins are more of that you get to RSP the pins of your choice at the event, so popular pins would only be available to you there, especially if low LE#. I also have the impression new traders are not considering cost of event to value of pin, same as DSSH release and/or PTDs....it may not have the same cost as an event but PTD/DSSH trading tends to be more about the character and the LE# even though you may have spent 3-5+ hours standing, $15 parking, and $ in gas.....I'm hoping it all evens out in the trades and everyone is happy---:wavey:
