Question regarding shipping.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum group. However, I have someone who wants to purchase the majority of my collection, roughly 400+ pins. Does anybody have any advice regarding the best, most cost effective way to ship this across the country?

I use pirateship dot com. They give you all the options at discounted rates. You do need to be able to accurately weigh your package, though.

I would use a usps flat rate shipping box. Depending on the weight, it tends to save money.

It’s more money but when I sold off my Pooh collection to 1 buyer, I added signature confirmation.

Oh, I also pay for insurance on pin packages worth over $100.

+1 for Pirate Ship. And for a flat rate USPS Priority Mail box probably being most cost effective for a batch like that. But depending on what the pins are, might not fit.

And yeah, I'm thinking you would definitely want to insure a batch like that.

Maybe multiple large flat rate boxes shipped via pirateship ?

When I helped my friend sell her collection, I asked the buyer if they wanted to buy insurance. 🙂

usps with insurance is easy and you can purchase online (rather than waiting at the post office)

For 400 plus pins I would probably avoid packing everything loose into one big box.


I would separate them into smaller groups, wrap the more valuable pins individually, and then pack those smaller boxes inside one strong outer box. It adds a little weight, but it gives you much better protection if the package gets dropped.


I would also compare UPS and FedEx with USPS based on the final weight and dimensions. At that value I would definitely use tracking, signature confirmation and insurance for the full amount of the sale.


Before sealing everything up, I would take photos of the pins and how they were packed. Hopefully you never need them, but having that documentation would make an insurance claim much easier if something goes wrong.
