I know that someone posted this yesterday. That sales tax is 9% at this store. A dear forum member is trying to tell me that a $14.00 pin comes to $18.00 with tax . I'm not a math whiz, but if I'm wrong, I'll eat my pins. Isn't 9% on $10.00, 90 cents and say the pin is $14.95 and we will round it off to $15.00 . Shouldn't the tax be $1.45. I just feel that someone is taking others on a long ride. LOL

$14 x 1.09 = $15.26 Does the $18 include shipping?

$14.95 x 1.09 = $16.30

My guess is that they are probably including shipping and a smallish fee for their time and possibly a fund for better outdoor equipment (for campouts).

Depending on what the pin is and whether or not it was required to wait in line overnight, I'd say that person earned a couple of extra bucks.

And yes. I've done the campouts and they are not always pleasant (it rained for two hours this last time). Sane people should be charging for the extra parking money required for overnight stays ($10 bucks minimum for hassel free parking), food, blankets, lack of sleep (because who can sleep with that idiot pounding on that drum until two in the morning?), the just before sunrise freeze, and hoping that the guard to the bathroom is in a good mood and lets you in.

Now... If that was an easy walk in and out for an easy pin, then I'd say it still costs at least two bucks to park, after you validate.

No, she blatantly said $14.00 pin with tax $18.00 . Then each pin $24.25 with free shipping. So that's $10.00 each pin x 4 pins $40.00 profit shipping minus $5.00 , $35.00 profit. What a scam and pin friends or suppose to be pin friends. LOL
When I go to WDW or on the DCL, I pick the pins up at cost and only charge shipping.
Ok, I don't stand outside overnight, but I do live in NJ and have to fly down, resort, etc Maybe I should start charging against my flight. LOL ... I'm not like that though.

My suggestion is agree to pay the price or turn them down and look elsewhere (And remember next time they ask for something from you.) I think a little negotiation is ok, just ask for the different costs broken out so you know what is in that number. I'd say don't complain about someone getting you pins from DSF as they are usually a production to acquire them. When you add parking, gas, tax then yes, a $14 pin may actually cost them $18. If they were going to go there anyways, the pins are on the shelf and not on release day, and/or you reciprocate pickup favors then maybe their price is too high and you should just decline and ask someone else. I think it's a bit unfair to compare your trip to WDW/DCL from NJ and a trip to DSF for a SoCal native. You are already going on the trip, did you incur extra costs to acquire the pin? If you were already going there in the first place then maybe don't add fees. But if the trip is just for them, (which would never be your case,) then you can add gas & parking.

Do you think the pin will be around 2 weeks after the release? If so, you can always wait and buy it from DSF via phone order.

In California each county and/or city is allowed to "add on" to the state sales tax. That's why the sales tax is different from place to place. The sales tax in Sacramento County (Northern California) is now 8%; however, in Placer County (next county to the north of Sacramento), the rate is 7.50%. In Hollywood (home of DSF) the rate is 9% and in Orange County (except for La Habra) the rate is 8%. In La Habra the rate is 8.5%. For more info check out: http://www.boe.ca.gov/cgi-bin/rates.cgi

Property Taxes in California were climbing higher and higher and in 1978 new legislation was passed that established a different method and rate for property taxes. You can read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)

See ... and y'all thought we here in California have it so easy, lol!!! Just kidding ... it's complicated and can be very difficult no matter where you live! Take care everyone!! *bjr

I did turn them down and it was for a friend of mine, not me. And it was $25.00 a pin, my friend offered $20.00 and they said, oh I'm only making a $1.00. LOL
Its good, he got them cheaper.
And LOL, this is true Mark about the WDW trips. Thanks for making me laugh a bit. I needed it !
