I love Hidden Mickey pins. Partly because it gives me a chance to talk to cast members and partly because it feels like a scavenger hunt. It makes me sad that so many HM pins are fakes and now this news makes me even more frustrated.
 
That is just terrible and so blatantly wrong! I definitely agree that they should be reported. It's sad if people actually spend money on those poor quality pins ~.~
 
These are obviously scrappers did you tell some one at disneyland as I'm sure they wouldn't like it and with the hotel down the road as well can you tell us the hotel? As I'm going to book my California holiday on Friday for October/November and I want to make sure I don't book this hotel many thanx Damien
 
I had the same thing when I was at DLR in Dec 08 with the hotel selling scrappers- I emailed the pics to Steven Miller (who was still the pin god at the time)

I do not want to state the name of the hotel. There was a non-pin related event that I was attending and if word got back to them that someone from that event told the universe about the bad practice, they might stop the group from conducting events there anymore.

I am going to go on the assumption that perhaps an employee of the gift shop suggested the pin rack and that the hotel, which is part of a fairly large corporate chain, would NOT have allowed the display if they knew it was illegal. I contacted Disney and let them know anonymously. Hopefully they will handle it from there.
 
Something for people to also consider, a lot of the hotels along Harbor we have stayed at have those little shops, but they rent the space. It might not be the hotel itself that is selling these pins, but a greedy shop owner that is the problem.

I agree with this. I used to work at a chain hotel on Harbor and the gift shop was it's own separate entity (ours was hardly ever open!)

$7 for one scrapper pin too?! You could buy an open edition pin in the parks for that so it's not like it's even a savings. Sad.

I CANT BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY HAD THE AUDACITY TO SELL UNAUTHORIZED PINS. That's crazy and it makes me so mad at the same time. I hope they're stopped.
 
It is sad. So much care and hard work goes into collecting and hunting. I have a bag full of fakes that I got of cast members in trading. It has gotten really bad. I hope Disney does a crack down like they did on those outside tourist group taking people through the parks abusing the handicap policy.

Also we need to stop calling fakes scarpers. Scarpers are rare. A true scraper is a official misprinted Disney pin. What is taking over online and in the parks are FAKES!!!!! They have no tie with Disney at all! A fake is a fake! DON'T BUY FAKE PINS! That used be or PSA to new collectors and parents.
 
The last time that we went to Disneyland we stayed at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel and I checked out the pins in their gift shop. They were mostly booster sets that had been opened and each pin put on it's own black card and sold for $7. I felt that was a little shady, but they were authentic, just placed on a backer card that they didn't actually come on. But this is beyond ridiculous. This is worse than selling fakes on eBay. At least on eBay the customer pays a low price for a crappy product. The margins have to be pretty phenomenal for the hotel, however. Probably a 1400% ROI.

When I saw the title of the thread I actually was checking to see if it was Jerry Leigh pins because there are two I am currently searching for and can't find them anywhere in the Targets/Walmarts/little gift shops along/around Disneyland- but hidden mickey pins?! That is just insane. they aren't even the cuter hidden mickeys.. and hidden mickey pins saying Walt Disney World.. I would think if they are making so much profit off of it they could at least afford to pick out the ones that go to the other resort.

Every time I see something like this I keep thinking it can't get any worse, and then it does!
 
We see them all the time in the flea markets around Kissimmee area. I was told they would be shut down or at least fined if they are caught doing this. I would report them.
