Sedesma Pins

My favorite Disney Character of all time is Clopin Trouillefou from the Hunchback of Notre Dame so naturally I want to collect all pins of him. The problem is, he's an obscure character from a less popular movie so pins of him are few and far between. Once I compiled all seven I could find I noticed that at least half of them are Sedesma pins. While researching this I noticed a lot of people who are very anti-sedesma saying things like they aren't real disney pins or they're no better than scrappers and should be avoided at all costs. This just made me kind of sad because I don't really mind, if you like it I think you should collect/keep it even if its a scrapper. And since there are so few of Clopin I'm happy to take whatever I can get.

I just wondered how everyone here felt about Sedesma pins seeing as there seem to be a lot of people out there who really hate them.

sedesma pins (and pro pins) were the 'junk pins' before scrappers took over on cast lanyards as they were plentiful and dirt cheap on eBay.. Because as a whole they are a cheaper construction/ quality than 'disney park pins' their about only redeeming quality is the more obscure characters/artwork they showcased..

If it is for your personal collection, collect whatever you want who cares. (my opinion)

If you plan to trade/sell, these sedesma pins would need to be noted as such to both parties before a transaction took place. Same with any other pin transaction, origin, manufacturer, quality, rating, original price, edition number etc all things that need to be disclosed before a transaction takes place. (my opinion)

I collect what I like and keep what I like, I don't care if Disney made it or it Susie down the street made it, it's for me. I do separate these types of items in my collection so when people are viewing for possible transactions it is clear there are Disney pins, scrappers, sedesma, non official, etc noted.

I guess it comes down to "what are you collecting?" Disney pins or Disney character pins. Sedesma or Propins or whatever else doesn't personally matter to me. They are not copies/clones/scrappers of Disney pins from what I can see. The ones I have may look similar in some cases, but not counterfeit because they are not trying to pass themselves off as authentic Disney pins. I collect Mulan character pins from anyone who makes them and if a set comes out from Staples or Walmart or Jersey Mikes or Piggly Wiggly, I would add them to my wants list. Of the first 35 Mulan pins listed on PinPics , 17 of them are not "Disney" pins, so go figure. If you like Clopin Trouillefou, I would get what there is. You don't know when the next "real one" will be released (PTD?). Just my two cents.

They are real Disney pins that were licensed. Are they cheaply made, yes. If you like them what does that matter? Quit worrying about what others think. I have a few of them in our collections. Collect what you enjoy!!!

Also, because some are of obscure characters, they can command a decent trade now days. As long as they are not beat up/trashed, ect. Which can happen easily because of their poor quality. But, I wouldn't be ashamed to have them in my collection. I have quite a few actually, both propins and Sedesma.

I also have a couple in my collection and I'm very happy to have them. If someone collects a character why wouldn't they want a pin that's probably unique for that character?

I cross my fingers everyday hoping for a Clopin PTD. Someday :x:

I have (hopefully) all the Pro-Pin and Sedesma pins of Tigger!! They are legitimate pins produced by European companies licensed by Disney. Like others have said - if it is for YOU, who cares?? Collect what you like.

I always really liked the Propins. And very early on people did desire then because of the unique characters and that they were from Europe. But when they flooded the trading market the interest waned and they developed the bad reputation. When the traders found out about the even cheaper Sedesma pins, it bled even more over to most of the older European pins.

Mostly, people just wanted to find better stuff on lanyards, which is the same as now. Their existence drove the need for Disney to create the Cast Lanyard series pins which later became the Hidden Mickey pins. So they are an important part of pin trading history.

And then there were also the Bertoni pins - another group of older European pins. I have a couple of different variations of the Wonderland ones in different metal and paint colors. I've been told variously that some are real, some are fake and some are possible prototypes, but since I don't know anything for sure, I've kept them all. lol

I guess some people would say Sedesmas aren't "real" Disney pins because they aren't the same sort of heavy metal normally seen in the parks, so they aren't considered good for trading (like the rubber pins). Personally, I like them. They are officially licensed, so they are legit, and they're usually of more obscure characters or characters in more varied poses than the same boring ones we see used over and over again here in the States. I know there are two Milo Thatch pins and two Jane Porter pins that I really like that are Sedesma.
