Hullo everyone!

I was wondering if y'all could help me out with a little something. As a clueless newbie with an array of pins both acquired and on the way, I need the throwdown of shadowboxes and display cases.

I'm hoping some of you pin vets could answer a couple of questions-

Is there a certain type of box or board that you would recommend?

Do you decorate your boards? If yes, how so? Stickers?

Where do you display your pins?

Honestly, I am completely out of sorts, so any advice and inspiration would be much appreciated. :)
 
Got a couple suggestions...

* Look under "Pin Showroom" - several people have posted pictures of their displays
* Vixy makes custom pin boards for sale or trade
* Google Disney Pin board displays and you'll see some creative ideas.

I personally use corkboard that I cut into shapes - cut - glue together and paint. I just posted two of my boards under Pin Showroom

I am making a Star Wars board for my husband, a train board for my oldest son and a rocket ship (just because he loves space and science) for my youngest son's eclectic collection
 
Welcome! As CCofRR13 said, there's a ton of creative ideas in the Pin Showroom!

One of my favorite ideas for creating a display (which is highly customizable) is using stretched canvas. Here's a tutorial: http://disneypinforum.com/showthread.php?43253-An-easy-way-to-frame-your-pins-Stretched-Canvas But you can use a lot of other mediums, like cork or styrofoam. I'm pretty sure there's a pros and cons thread about the different materials somewhere, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. ;-;

You can decorate them however you like, and stickers generally can be used. There's a few no-no's scattered here and there (I haven't encountered too many problems myself) but I would generally advise against painting the surface which you will display your pins. It could get sticky, and then getting the paint off could be a big pain.

As for displays, I would probably suggest to keep them out of places that would place them in direct sunlight, just to avoid fading/other issues (bending, warping of the metal, etc. It shouldn't be that big of a problem, but just to be extra careful.)

Ooooo....I just noticed you are from central Ohio. Where abouts? I'm in Rocky River - 10 minutes West of Cleveland
 
Just outside of Alexandria. Its in the middle of nowhere, but it's a good little town. We're about twenty minutes from Columbus.

I use shadow boxes and cut foam core board to fit in it to poke the pins into. I cover the foam core with disney teamed material.

I do the same thing. Shadow box frames used to have thicker backings, but now you need to put something in the back of the frame, like foam board, or the pins hit the plywood and are not secure. I decorate the foam board with pictures and momentos from the events I attend.
