Some pin traders should be punched....

.... because they deserve it. Yesterday at DL I got into an argument with a lady who tried to tell me an OE pin that was released during DL's 50th anniversary was limited edition. I told her no, it was not, it was an open edition pin released during the anniversary. Then she changed her story saying it was a limited release. No it wasn't! And then she wanted a LE 300 pin traders delight for it because, "it was a free pin"... um, I seem to remember paying for it, and no, not for an OPEN EDITION PIN. And while we were trying to trade, she started talking to another person and ignored me! Then, some guy had a harder to find Hidden Mickey pin (Archimedes) and was complaining that he didn't want to break up his set to trade it and wanted 3 LE's for it. I know it's a hard to find pin, but don't complain about it. And from what I heard, I wasn't the only one having bad pin trading experiences in the park yesterday. One guy trading with a cast member was saying how he had been cheated in some trades that day, and another person was talking about the rabid pin traders going after their POMH pins and not wanting to trade it for anything less than a $50 pin.

Ok, done with my rant. It's just that with releases like yesterday's, you get some really jerky pin people who take pride in what they have to trade and only like to trade with certain people. They look down on your pins and make trade offers that only benefit themselves. And apparently are even misinformed about their own pins. :down:


I've never had a pin trading experience like yesterday. Every other day this summer I've had great trading experiences with people. Funny that none of those people were there yesterday. Now I know who to stay away from.


Or else they'll get a Practically Perfect Punch in the face.

I have been feeling the exact same way recently...

Two series that I have enjoyed collecting since day one (PODM and Beloved Tales) have now been completely taken over by opportunists. Back when Snow White came out I got amazing scenes for around $30 a piece. Now, The Lion King has already cost me 500 bucks just to get the scenes I want. I'm scared the same thing is going to happen with Beloved Tales now...

It has really sucked the fun out of it.

Yeeeeah there are a lot of greedy people out there who are only out to make profit and 'trade up' for better pins. Don't let them get you down, there are still nice people out there! Asking even one LE pin for the Archimedes HM is ridiculous in my opinion! You should be able to find it no problem using a newer hidden mickey. I could be wrong because I don't collect hidden mickeys in general, just the ones that are for the movies I collect, like Sword in the Stone, but I had no problem trading for my set go to pin trading night in August if you can, I'm sure you'll have better luck

<Sigh> I will have to strong arm these fools when I go down in 2 weeks. I have only 3 days at Disney and I plan on being a trading machine...fair of course...I really hope these people avoid me because I will not deal with morons trying to rip people off.

Didnt someone on here say there is a lady who camps out in front of a store? and gets you to buy her a pin for a scrapper she has on her cork board?

That sheet will not be happening while I am there for the 3 days...

Ugh I had a weird experience too. My sister and I got our pins pretty early, and were able to enjoy the park when the ropes dropped, so we walked on to a ton of rides. However, after that we went to trade... I was looking through someones book because he wanted my maleficent monorail. Then someone came and looked through my book (I didn't mind really, my sis was watching my book for me) and started talking...the guy I was originally trading with actually told the guy "Hey do you mind? We're trying to make a trade here." At first I thought he was joking...but he was seriously ticked. .___.;

I don't think it was bad, just more...weird?

Idk, I didn't make any trades with traders at all, yesterday, though...but I did make a tone with CM's so i guess it's all good? lol

PODM release days bring out all the wacko traders, and on top of that normal traders on tired and edgey....

I just avoid the trade that day every month. Heck we dont generally go to podm releases anymore. And I have to go for the steamboat willie unless I can find a pretrade for it.

I have to agree; trading is not so much a fun sport for me but an attempt to find new things. The personalities are not welcoming to people they don't already know, which amazes me...you walk up to a trader who has their pins out, say hi, and they look at you without saying hi back or give you a suspicious look. What do you want, my business card? It's just not pleasant. The PTN's for me are more about seeing pins I've never seen before so I can add them to my wish lists rather than actual trading.

I skipped Lion King yesterday because I couldn't bear the thought of 4 hours in line for a stupid pin. Yes, they're gorgeous, but I feel much better about the fact that I went and worked my normal 8 hours. When prices die down I'll get one on ebay for $40 and be just as happy.

For that reason, I'm glad the PODM are going away.

I'm sad to say it but I agree with you now. I was upset when I first heard the lineup for the rest of this year and that there would be no more 2013, but now, I'm glad they are ending. I'm officially worn down. I'm tired of the lying, cheating, scamming, etc.

I wish that were true but they will find something else to go rabid over!

When someone tells me amusing fiction about their pins, I smile and move on to the next trader.

Whenever a series of pins start going for crazy prices, everyone - traders, collectors, and sellers - go insane. Traders want them to try and get their grail pins. Collectors must have a sample of each of the major scenes in something like PODM pins because each one is unique. Sellers want them for the high return on investment. The only lucky ones are those who have the ability to walk away or who simply have no interest in the pin.

It sucks, but greed truly is the root of all evil.

I love pins, but I hate what they do to people.
