Hi. I've been trading for a few months now mainly through CM lanyards at DLR. Recently, I decided to try my hand at real trading with other people. The problem is that I don't have any good LE pins or stuff that other people want in general. So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for pins I could buy as trader pins to slowly trade up to my grails. I've been looking through pinpics and getting some ideas, but it's a very slow process and any tips people may have would be much appreciated.

Honestly, my suggestion would be to just start buying the higher end pins that you want. Prices are low right now so you should be able to find some good deals. Then, as time goes on you may decide that you don't really like some of your old pins anymore and then they will become traders.

Trading has been really slow lately (from my perspective anyways) and it is risky to buy pins thinking that you will be able to trade for what you really want because that is all a matter of finding the right person, with the right pins, who also happens to want what you have. It can be very difficult sometimes! So, I'd really have to say that you should buy what you want first and then gradually work your way into trading.

Hi, mavericklancer - I totally agree with everything erudolf has said, its good advice! Trading has certainly gone very quiet at the moment for me, and I have done more purchasing than trading of late.

Good luck with your pin hunting!

+1 Erudolf is always a great voice of reason!

I find it easier at times to sell some I had as traders to [basically] trade them for the ones I'm looking for...kinda like assigning a point system to what I think mine is worth vs. the worth of what I'm looking for. I just assign points in dollars. Then [/me grabbing my proverbial shopping cart] I can score what we want. I just flipped some traders so I could buy some of the POMHs.

Anyhoo - if that isn't an option you can start at DisneyStore.com. Buy up some cute LE 250s, those can usually net you some stuff you're looking for...if you give up enough of 'em. ;)

Agreed. I have spent way more on traders that were matches on Pinpics, that never resulted in trades, than I could have purchased the pins for (if available). Just because a pin is a match, does not mean it will result in a trade.

Watch the trades board here, check out people's wants lists. You can get an idea of what's popular for themes. Check out the ratio of those trading vs. wanting. Obviously in theory, the better ratio of wants to trades, the better a trader the pin is... again all of this is in theory... nothing is a sure trade pin.

Grab some traders for the sake of being able to trade, but buy them keeping in mind you may never trade the pins or at least may not get what you feel is a "equal" trade, so at any point they could just end up being lanyard fodder.

There are great traders available for sale here on the boards. They range in price from $3 to $30+. But buy traders for the fun of trading. The grails will come. They find a way to get into the pin bags they belong in. :)

Happy trading!

Thanks for all the replies =). With the price of pins the way it is, I guess buying straight is the way to go. I may just buy a few traders though. The LE 250 ones on the disney store were a great suggestion. Most have 0 - 1 people trading them.

And to everyone curious, I'll have my pinpics account set up after my DLR trip this weekend.
