Hope this is okay to post and I also hope it proves to be beneficial for DPF Members


Since I've started selling here, I appreciate seeing all the different ways people will post their sale threads and have learned
a lot about what's most convenient for other members to find what they are looking for.

However, I know I still have quite a lot to learn, and I thought in the interest of helping other members too that it
might be helpful to post a thread asking Members for Their Tips and/Or Suggestions on Organizing Sales Threads.

We have awesome Selling/Buying Guides Here, but I thought this might be a good thread to give members
(whether they buy, sell or trade) an opportunity to post their thoughts and suggestions, and what works for them.

for me, much like my auctions, if I post a sales thread I would Prefer to have a small thumbnail image with the pinpic link build right in. BUT I am guilty of not doing that recently. ((IE the pixar mystery box pins)) because well, it takes time to cut and paste all that stuff over and over.

As a seller or a buyer, I need pinpic numbers no matter what. A picture is awesome, it peaks my interest. But as a buyer I need that pinpic number to know if it is worth the interest for trading later.
 
I liked it best when the pinpics tag worked for all browsers. It was easy for people to type and you got a picture and a link. I like links because I can click and see if I own it or want it. I also like pictures of the actual items. Like when people put pins on a page or a board and then Photoshop in the prices, or list them below the image. Sometimes my mind skips over just text, or even bad Pinpics pictures. But if I see an actual pin, I stop.

Yeah, I have been figuring only "gift" option in my prices, but I'm thinking I should start just figuring in the goods, and letting people decide if they would like a discount by paying via gift. Also the character idea is something I want to implement as well.



^ That is the main reason I have forgone doing pinpics numbers for every single pin- however, as you said, it is pretty important to know what pin you are buying. I sometimes forget the fact that catalogging pins can be difficult enough and even harder if you have to search for each pin you purchase.

A lot of times when selling, I am either taking pictures of each pins and making it where people can see the actual pin and let me know what they are interested or I list each pin via pinpics but have not had the actual picture posted. But I'm realizing both are equally important, especially as I know what I look for when I open up other 'sale' threads in search of a certain pin.


That's also a good idea- I have personally used it where I photoshop prices in, but did not think of putting the pinpics # along with it. I didn't realize the pinpics tag don't work with all browsers. :doh:


I hope I'm making sense and if I'm not feel free to call me out on it :rofl: I am just hoping to learn more about how I can make pin selling/buying easy for other members and hopefully other members can also learn along with it.

I like the little pinpics picture link with the written title. If sellers are listing long lists of pins, and there are no pictures of any kind, its hard work and I personally give up looking through the list. I also love it when people photograph their pin books, it shows how beautiful some of the pins can be, and I have certainly added a lot to my wants list through seeing others pins.

I am the same way too. Sometimes the pins are categorized by character, that makes those long lists a bit more manageable. I skip Fab 5 or C&D and go to what interests me. But if it is a loooooooooong list, I lose interest.

I like the thumbnails and I use it because it is easier than taking pics for me. But when others do it, I like the actual pictures too. If you can photoshop PP# and prices into actual pictures, I think it should work wonderful.
 


Thanks so much guys! I am going to try to jot down the good tips everyone has been posting in the original post later today or over the weekend as you guys are bringing up some great suggestions! I'm not sure about other members, but I know for me when it comes to organizing sale or trade threads, it's the time constraint that ends up making them suffer where organization is concerned. But I think reading everyone's input gives me some good focus as to where to improve =) Hope everyone else has enjoyed this thread too and thanks so much again for everyone's helpful input!!

I personally prefer both the pictures AND the PinPic Numbers. I love it even more when the title or the number links to the page of the pin on PinPics so I can look at additional information if I so choose to.

YES! That would be super if both of them are up! I've been to sales threads where it's a huuuuuge list of pins and it's just a table of the pin number and title. There's SO much that I have no idea where to look cause there's no categories or any sort of organization. Although some of them, if you roll over and the photo shows up, the photos are so tiny that it just discourages me to even check out the pins for sale or trade and I just close the tab and move on the the next thread. It's always beneficial to have all the available information there but people will always be attracted to photos more. When you skim a magazine at the supermarket while you're waiting in line, you don't skim the text. You skim the photos that pop up on every page. It's the same logic here.​


Do you like Paypal Fees to be Included in the Price? Does it Matter to You?
For me, I rather the fees are not included and the seller write a disclaimer saying that if the buyer wish to pay via not-by-gifts then you add on $--.-- to the total price. The reason being that here on DPF, we have a wonderful thing called Feedback. This makes me trust the seller and I'm more inclined to forgo the extra fees. However, if for some reason I think that maybe it's worth it to pay the extra paypal fees for (for example) a large/expensive pins then that option is there for me too.​

Do You Search For Pins Based on Characters? Prices?
I personally search for pins based on what I'm collecting, then characters, and then price. Currently, I am trying to collect PODMs thus I usually click on threads that say PODM. Then I click, do a quick sweep, locate the PODMs (target acquired!) see the character, then look at the price. If it's not podm, I look at the characters first too, then price. The reasoning is that if they have a pin I want, and the pin might or might not be a little over my budget, chances are that they might want to work out something with me in terms of price; either by trade + $ or maybe willing to lower the price for me. ​

pinpics image on the left,
follow by pin number,
then title that links to pinpics,
if the said pin is Mint On Card or not,
then price.

I like this set up, if I ever had to I would like to know how to add the pinpics pic, my computer wont let me copy pics from thier site how do you get the pics.

Ooh, I'd love to put a 'how to' guide together with everyone's suggestions! I will definitely see what I can come up with in the upcoming week and hopefully can give good exposure to all the great tips everyone has shared here

Milky, great input and you have a lovely set up for your pins! I think it works great especially with the way you listed the PODM- so simple to get all the info and a quick look at the scene! Thanks so much for sharing!!


Thanks again everyone! My time on DPF today has been extremely sparing and I probably won't be able to sign in too much over the weekend, but so glad to see everyone still adding to suggestions! DPF has such a great variety of creative and helpful members! =)
