I've noticed that Tangled prices seem to be going down some because of Frozen Mania...do you guys forsee that trickling down to the marquee? I've seen some up for sale on that auction site but people don't seem to be paying the prices they're asking since I saw a couple being relisted over and over. Of course it's all just speculation but I would like to know your opinions. Thanks!
 
I'm not sure but imo, prices in general are dropping. At least, based on my experience. But I don't think the Tangled marquee is going to drop anytime soon (at least not drastically). I think most people see it as an equal to the Frozen marquee for now as I've seen a few people on Facebook asking to trade it for just that. And I do think some people are backing off from Frozen. Just my first thoughts though.
 

If they're trading dollar for dollar, that's a wildly skewed trade. The Tangled marquee is older and harder to come by. At a quick glance, the last sold dollar amount on eBay for the Tangled marquee was $750 on 1/26/14. Last sold Frozen marquee on eBay was $252 on 2/16/14, and there are more Frozen marquees on eBay than Tangled, at least at the moment. While I agree that the Tangled prices have fallen a little bit, I disagree that these two pins specifically are "equals" just yet...

I'm definitely no expert on Marquees (Nathan, where are yooou??), but it's such a coveted collection of pins that I think it's possible we could continue to see other Tangled pins fall in price, but the Marquee stay static. I mean, the Up! and Wall-E Marquees still command a LOT of money, and they've been out even longer...

Edit: Also, as an afterthought, when I think of marquees, I know there are loads of people who collect ONLY marquees (i.e. Not Tangled, Frozen, Wall-E, Up! collectors, but JUST marquee collectors) so that also could lead to the rarity and price point of these pins, which further leads me to believe that the price likely won't drop, or if it does, not by much. The pool of people looking for them is more than just movie-specific collectors... does that make sense?

I have no idea if they're trading dollar for dollar, I'm just going by the posts I see on Facebook and the internet in general. People might be asking for that trade but I don't think anyone is actually agreeing to it. But Frozen is much younger than Tangled, so I guess some people take the chance instead of just trading dollar for dollar. And I, personally, don't think they're equal at all. Just going by the general crowd.

Anyway, my general answer is no; it will not drop in price.
 
I do see the Tangled marquee dropping but probably to no less than $500. The Frozen marquee, I don't see getting up that high for a few more years.
 
Thanks for the opinions thus far! I agree that it probably will stay at the higher end of the Tangled pins. It'll be interesting to see what the Frozen marquee ends up at over time.
 
The frozen craze is at its peak, I'm sure it'll drop a little bit. I'd love the tangled marquee though but I can't see it coming down.
 
Frozen marquee is LE500, Tangled LE300. Tangled will always be that magnitude more. Frozen is the it thing. Brave was the it thing once, now that has kind of tanked. Tangled will I think lower to $500-ish maybe lower if someone is desperate. Frozen, depends how Disney plays it. But when the DVD is released we might see a little spike, but over the long haul it will settle in like a Tangled but its edition sizes are higher. Tangled opening day had Rapunzel on both park and cast. No cast for Frozen, and park has a bubble with Olaf and the letters come off easily. So those pins will never be the $200-$400 Tangled Opening day once pulled in. Anna & Elsa will do well. Olaf long term I don't think so much. But then again I like Pascal more than Olaf. Don't really care for Olaf at all.
 
I don't really see frozen reaching the height of tangled anytime soon really. Frozen has been hyped since the beginning and because of the outrageous prices frozen is going for right off the bat turns some people off. What a lot of people don't realize about tangled is it was a bit of a sleeper movie. A lot of people waited to see the movie out of theaters and a lot of the pins went on clearance or sale... The prices of some of the older tangled pins is that way because a lot of the older pins are hard to find within the pin community cause quite a few of the pins went with tourist instead of pin traders. I know for sure a lot of the tangled opening day, stain glass, and compact barely moved when it was first released.
Id give frozen maybe a year before deciding whether or not it will stay at the height it is right now... I believe it will stay popular cause it is a great movie but I doubt it will keep going up considering most people complain about priced now and the movie is still so new.
 
I think a lot of people are trying to get in on the "ground floor" with Frozen since they don't want to miss out on something big and later have to make up for it like a lot of people do with Tangled.
 
Even the merchandise for frozen is selling at insane prices! Did that happen for tangled too? I didn't see tangled until I bought the DVD and before I was pin collecting. Frozen I totally love but am preferring the other merchandise more. I'm not sure why!
 
Yeah, I think all Tangled pins will go down in price a little, like all past "fads" have (Jessica, Stitch, Tink, etc.) However the Tangled marquee isn't just a "Tangled" collection pin, but a "marquee" collection pin as well (as other's have stated). The marquee collectors never go "out of style" so the Tangled marquee will always maintain it's ability to be a popular marquee. It's like with how although Up isn't as big as Frozen pin-wise, the Up marquee will always be considered the "grail of all grail" marquee pin because "Up" collectors, "Frozen" collectors, and "marquee" collectors are all different.

As for Tangled, the reason why Frozen will never reach Tangled level is because, as other's have said, the hype. Tangled (and Wreck-It-Ralph) were 2 movies that were consecutive sleeper hits (Tangled being bigger, but WiR had a similar effect). When they first came out, nobody really gave a crap about either of them in terms of pins, they weren't really that big so all the pins went to tourists or people who just genuinely liked the movie. After the 2 movies came out on DVD and everybody saw how good they were, it was a mad dash to pick up whatever they could out there that was still available. That essentially made LE300 pins kind of LE100 (since 200 had already been bought by random non-pin traders who have no idea of the pin's value) and made Tangled skyrocket (as well as WiR). Frozen doesn't have that luxury since every Frozen pin that comes out is hoarded and kept like the freaking precious ring in Lord of the Rings.

and with Tangled, it may be a 300 but you gotta think about how many of those are in circulation for trade. Its supply and demand, if the Tangled marquee stays as elusive as it has been I dont see it coming down lower that $600 anytime soon. While Tangled may be going down because of Frozen its still a VERY popular and desired collection.
 
Another thing that will keep the Tangled pins (at least the DSF ones) in a higher value is the quantity of them in 'collectors/traders' hands. What many may not remember is that Tangled was in the pre-DSF-sellout days. The now 'famous' Tangled marquee and Rapunzel/Flynn chair pins (and all the others) sat on the selves at the DSF for more than a week... I remember seeing them all there for multiple days (and I'm pretty sure one or two of them even ended up in the $4 discount bin), so there are a lot of them that were purchased by actual costumers that happened to be in the store after seeing the movie and thinking 'hey, that's a cute pin', and may still not have a clue it's worth anything...

Every single Frozen pin went straight into the collections of us fanatics, either to keep, trade or sell... So there's 400-500 of each of those pins pretty much locked into the hard-core collector market. There's no telling how many of the 300 each of the Tangled pins are actually being collected/traded by Disney Pin Collectors... That reduces the # a lot.

The Up Marquee (and the other pins) are the same way. The Up marquee sold out during a special advance (D23 I think) screening, so they all went to people that had access to seeing the movie the day before it was released (being a 150 makes it even that much harder)... Some of those people are pin collectors of course, but I'd bet many of them are just Disney fans that would casually buy stuff for themselves of their kids, which then get lost/broken/etc. All the rest of the Up pins sat on the selves for days before finally selling out... (Again, some of them ended up in the $4 discount bin.)

I think that will help keep the older stuff higher in value since there is, in reality, fewer then the LE# of them available to us.

The compact that everyone crazes about sat on DS.com so long it went on CLEARANCE!!!!! One of my friends bought like 10 of them cause it only cost I think it was like $15....tangled was not even thought of til about a month or two AFTER the DVD release. I miss the good old pin trading days when PTDs lasted weeks and you could get to DSF at 10 in the morning and not worry about getting pins you wanted. Sigh. Pin trading has changed so much.

Yeah, then again, back in the day (before I started) when pins weren't so big, the DA pins that now for go hundreds or thousands didn't go for much and the R/C Girls were found on CM lanyards (now Rapunzel is worth well over $2000). I remember seeing threads about how the original Designer Princesses could barely go for $400 about a month after they came out. Rapunzel nowadays goes for a little under double that so she would pay for your whole set and then some...
 
Frozen will spike again when the DVD comes out and people can watch it over and over and not have to pay for theater prices. Frozen I think will eventually be bigger than Tangled just like Tangled is bigger than Ariel/Belle/Aurora/etc. Mostly because of the story. Frozen's story touches a lot. Tangled is cute and funny, but I'm not so sure it really touches peoples hearts like Frozen did. Rapunzel is cute and awkward. But Anna Else and the sisterly thing with the little one being lonely, that hits home with a lot.
 
Although I agree that frozen a story is more personal for people, i also see a lot of people turning away or giving up on the frozen pins because of the instant high prices/ trade value people are putting on these pins right off the bat... Example is the new Anna Ptn coming out in march, there are already sellers prices it at $125 out the gate without the pin even being released yet. Even the tangled Ptn from wdw when released went for only about $45- $50 presold. That's a BIG difference!
plus I think frozen is still being over hyped because everyone is jumping on it cause it's new and no one wants to make the mistake, like tangled, and miss out on the " next big thing" and everyone thinks " oh if I start from the beginning I can be a completist" cause that's all I read when frozen was being released... But now that people are realizing it's not that easy I see people giving it up and prices will slowly go down a bit. Not a lot cause I know frozen will stay popular but the prices should go down a bit.
 

I never really thought about it like that. When the DVD comes out in a month there will be another surge as everyone is seeing it again and more than once so will boost the demand of pins.
 
I think Frozen and Tangled will end up pretty close in popularity. I do agree that the sister story and the fact that Anna and Elsa are unconventional princesses appeal to a lot of people. I see a little of myself in both of their characters actually. It's not fully a romantic love story too which adds to it and makes it very different than previous princess movies. I've been watching Tangled all the time lately with my son (who asks to watch "Punzel" a lot!) and I really love the story, the music, the characters, the quirkiness etc. Although I really like Frozen, I don't know if I'm there with it like Tangled. Of course, after I've watched it on DVD a hundred times, I might feel differently!
