I figured it would only be pin boards which I'm glad since more pins are available than lanyards. I was curious how it would be implemented though so thank you for sharing! I'm excited to go and trade some pins again!

I'm shocked to see a pin board with good pins!

In other news, I now have to make the most dangerous part of this whole journey... the return to civilization. I have my first shift back at work next week and I've got mixed feelings about leaving my nice bubble of free time and sleeping whenever I want lol.

If they're separating "used pins" and what goes on the board, maybe this means someone is getting rid of the fakes.

Last Friday I took a little excursion to the World mainly to see what leftover Splash merchandise the eBay shoppers left the rest of the universe, but I also wanted to go pin trade in person since I saw boards were up. I have been meaning to post this after I went but am now since the forums are back up!

First went to Disney Springs. Nothing. No boards or traders. Tried walking to Saratoga Springs but was told I had to take a bus to and from. Passed on that. Next up was the Contemporary. Nothing. Someone staying at Bay Lake Towers said they purchased all the Splash items on Thursday afternoon and then again on Friday morning after restock. smh.

Went to Grand Floridian which was eerily spooky empty (all the hotels were) besides two people on this couch.
I was actually able to snag the last Splash Mt pin at one of the stores upstairs since the ground level floor store said the eBay shoppers were there earlier and bought out the stock.

Next up was the Polynesian. On my walk there, a few people were at the pool and saw the work on the rose gold Cinderella castle!
This resort was also empty besides a few people in Captain Cooks and the store of Boutiki.
No Splash merchandise at all...but there was a pin board which I was not expecting at all but was very happy to trade.
Went upstairs to the other smaller shop and didn't have any Splash merch but did have another pin board. If you look closely you can see it in the picture. Both boards were laying down on the back counter so they weren't too easy to spot.
Here is the board close up:

So all in all, the 3 confirmed resorts that have pin boards are Saratoga Springs in the Artists Palette restaurant, Beach Club Resort, and Polynesian. Overall it was a fun day in WDW and it was just so nice to be back in Springs and some of the resorts while travelling on the pretty much empty buses. Everyone was wearing masks and I did feel safer than at my grocery store.

People are making me lose my faith in humanity. Just wear your mask... no, a lace one does not count, and definitely don't try to wear that to Disney to be cheeky. Why are people so insistent on antagonizing cast members just because they don't like the rules? Like you really don't gotta be like this lol....

Ohio Governor just made a mask mandate throughout the state. However, there were some interesting stats on Ohio COVID that came out, too.

The percentage of deaths in Ohio to the total population of Ohio is .025% (that's two and one half thousands of one percent). In the past 21 days, deaths were .003% of the population.

Mom was talking to her insurance rep yesterday, and she said that she has two nurses in a big hospital in Ohio. They both work with the COVID testing. They wanted to test the swabs, so they both took a brand new swab and sent it in (without using the swab) and the results came back that they were both positive!

The Insurance rep also had an interesting thing . .. her father-in-law and 7 fishing buddies (all in their 70s) decided to go get COVID tested. They drove up and were told a 3 1/2 hour wait. They said forget that, and drove off. Three days later, they all got Health Dept. letters saying that they had each tested positive and are now under house quarantine and the health department is coming in. :eeyore:

Can we call this the 2020 coping thread? Because this really is the worst year. Lol. Not covid related but my insurance company declared my car a total loss. ): This sucks, I liked my car and can't afford a new one unless insurance shells out some big bucks.

You're legit not joking about 2020 being the worst year. I remember reading an article observing that some of the worst situations from the 20th century have emerged and are repeating themselves this year ... and the year is barely half over (although it feels like it should be 2023 by now).

On your non-COVID related note, I'm sorry about your car. Fingers crossed that your insurance company authorizes enough so you can replace it, although the most important thing is that you're okay.

Yeah, 2020 sure made it a quieter house welcoming after waiting since 2017 for our rebuild... Initially it felt like the Nemo aquarium fishies at the end of the movie in their little plastic bags. “Now what?” :p

Just a funny analogy that popped in my head with the thread name change - but very grateful since it could have been a way worse move in if we didn’t already have a lot of time on our hands to prepare for our home (furniture shopping during this time? No thank you!)

in all honesty despite everything and a few health scares (not Covid but existing illnesses) we are all doing well :)

so since I have the time to post right now, i wanted to say our thoughts are with everyone dealing with these unique times and the stresses that they are bringing <3

While Ohio looks at closing down some more . . . they've released the death stats for Cleveland and Columbus (two biggest cities) over the weekend. No deaths in Columbus on Saturday. no deaths in Cleveland on Sunday.

Right now we’re discussing the benefits/disadvantages of remote learning vs partial schooling(Lessened hours, Friday’s remote learning) options available to our daughters. A couple of the larger schools around us have already stated that they’d do 100% remote learning for elementary/jr high; I think our local’s decision to implement choice of schooling was put in place based on what stage the state is in, there hasn’t been a school board meeting to discuss it. We are a small school but even the remote chance of getting sick in general is heightened as both came home sick several times last year and we also have two older immunocompromised individuals at home...

No deaths =/= no danger. Covid is producing long-term adverse health effects for many survivors. It is a highly contagious, highly dangerous disease, and cherry-picking specific data points doesn't mitigate that. States looking to close down are looking at the long term, especially in light of how soon school is starting and how important it is for in-person education to be an option. Getting the virus transmission levels down is critical, and again unrelated to a single day's death count.

Based upon what I can discern from watching news reports and reading articles surrounding the conversation to reopen the schools, when the boards meet to have these discussions, their meetings are held over zoom or another similar format. So the biggest irony would be that they're social distancing for these meetings because they recognize that holding them in-person isn't safe, but they're discussing how sending children back to school is not only safe but a good idea?!

Not saying one way or the other . . . but I think that it is a bit hard to just trust the media, though. We have a really good friend who we grew up with, and she works in the ER of one of the big local hospitals. Anyone might remember from the early COVID news about the prison in Marion, OH being the nation's hotbed of COVID. They released tons of prisoners form many prisons in OH because of COVID inside. Well, we were talking to our friend at the hospital, and she said that their hospital serviced the Marion prison and while many positive cases were found, they had simply one person with symptoms and not even needing hospitalization. The second worse prison in the area that was said to have been totally infested . . . a co-worked of our friend has a son who is in there, and she talked to him and he said they were watching the news and told his Mom that she shouldn't believe a single thing about it, as they didn't have one person come down with a single symptom and that they were all floored by the media reporting such a pack of lies.

Also, as far as cases . . . she said that anyone coming in to the ER . . . if they sneeze or complain of anything to do with breathing, they are immediately treated as a COVID case and tested. However, they are marked down as a COVID case since they don't get the test back for days, but have to mark it down because of ER admitting. The said that a little girl came in with known massive allergies and asthma and when she complained of her breathing problem, everyone immediately had to suit up and she was treated and marked as COVID case. However, she was just there to get her normal asthma medicine that they come for periodically. She had four other similar stories from the same day.

So, I think you can't rely on just the media. We were super surprised to hear her stories. And she is someone we've known since she was 8 and she never lies. Maybe a little too black and white at times, actually! :) So, been some thought provoking items there!

Since the intention of this thread is "coping" with everything that's going on, I'd like to recommend we go back to discussing our personal struggles (if one so chooses), sharing memes, offering support and helpful tips, etc.

I have plenty of opinions on the state of our nation, wholly and in part, and I could also explain a lot about how the health care system works, but I don't think this is the venue, nor are we reducing anyone's stress levels by continuing in the current vein ....

Has anybody been to a park amid the 'rona? You see all the non-Disnerds trashing them for opening which might have some standing but how was the distancing/safety guidelines?

I've been! Honestly Disney is doing everything right and all of the safety and distancing guidelines should mean everyone is perfectly safe. Plenty of ground markers, many reminders of mask wearing and also constantly updating rules to fix the loopholes people keep trying to find. Frequent cleaning as well.

No surprise, it's the guests that are ruining it and causing problems. It's been getting better, but you get a lot of people who think they're clever by pulling down their mask below their nose or having it rest just on the tip, as opposed to right below the eyes where it's supposed to be. Guests also seem to be struggling with basic concepts such as watching ground markers. Not all of the queues have plexiglass installed in between them, so the switchbacks will have the normal 6 foot markers on one row, and then on the next row, there won't be any ground markers in the entire row. It's meant to prevent parties from standing next to each other. But people seem to think that as long as they keep six feet from the party in front of them, they can stand wherever they want. Never mind the fact that there's now a family directly to their right and left because they're the dingdong standing where there there is no marker. People also aren't watching their children, as usual, so children are still touching literally everything, including their faces and mouths and then rails, chains, and everything. A lot of people are trying to circumvent the rule of wearing masks on the ride too, but the fact that Disney will ruthlessly delete your ride photo if you take off your masks helps.

Still though, it's pretty good and for the most part people are following the rules. It's a small amount that are being obnoxious and putting everyone else's health at risk. Like the mom that let her children sit right next to me on a bench despite the fact that there was an open one right across the way.

Overall though I feel pretty safe going.

Omg they delete ride photos for anti-maskers? That's absolutely incredible lol. That's about what I got from various footage, I saw video of someone's child licking a wall in the Soarin' queue from their parent so evidently some people aren't too worried. I'm glad to hear Disney is doing what they can.
