Hmmm, today I want to fix a zipper on a pin bag. And by golly, I think I might actually have time. Will post to let everyone know how it goes.

So it looks like all the crazy pin releases some of us lived through, like Windows of Evil, was actually really good training for grocery shopping now.:D:p

Speaking of which, how is our resident Wizard doing? How has this affected his timeline with his doctorate? As if that whole process isn't stressful enough.

Well, my trip got canceled as it was the last week of March and I have no idea when I should reschedule for.

I also managed to accept a new job before everything got crazy . I had planned to take my vacation between the two jobs, but now I am just going to have to take time from vacation bank at the new job at some point (which is unfortunately, much smaller.)

However, I think Disney should consider more online pin releases in this time. We're all stuck at home with our computers and credit cards. And if they can't get the pin revenue at the park, they can get some of it that way !!!

Exactly! You would think DSSH in particular would do this since they do online anyway. But looking at the FB comments responding to their closure announcement, sounds like they don't have plans to do that. Of course that might change as Chapek thinks more about how to keep some revenue coming in.

I just assumed that Disney is not doing any new pin releases right now because the pin makers are all in Asia, and a lot of products and shipments are delayed right now.

I don’t see them sitting on a ton of new pins and just choosing not to release them (online or in any other way). Disney likes that $$$$ too much.

But I could be wrong. I often am.

Day 4 of being stuck at home. No instructions from one job on how to work from home or if I'm gonna get paid... But that doesn't matter! @coblj003 was my SS last year and must have had a sixth sense for what was going to happen!

Keep your expectations on Queens of Animation low. Great topic but more theory/speculation than actual research. I borrowed it from the library over Christmas break and was glad I could send it back. :p

IMHO...DSSH primary business is ice cream & chocolate, not pins. (Shhh don’t tell the pin people that lol). They need the staffing to do this, online sales to fulfill orders etc, and with their shop not essential food service for take out makes sense why they are closed and are not offering online sales like shop Disney. Again IMhO.

Are the Ghirardelli staff actually Disney employees?

I’m not sure, I’m assuming not. They don’t refer to themselves as cast members that I’ve ever heard. And when the parks and eventually downtown Disney closed, DSSH closed on a different timeline and messaging, if memory serves. I think it’s Ghirardelli staffed with licensing for Disney product.

I suspect it’s going to be closed longer than pin collectors have patience for unfortunately.

I got it from DMR (I miss real rewards). I feel like I'm going to be cross referencing it while I'm reading this. It's a behemoth tho. Not for the faint readers.

It's been awhile but thought someone at DSSH said the store is owned by Ghirardelli and the employees are employed by Ghirardelli, but per their agreement with Disney the employees are to wear cast member name tags.

Perhaps a false memory? Or perhaps it was someone in the Ghirardelli store that is inside California adventure...

My memory is perhaps failing a bit.

My understanding is that there are a couple of folks that are DSSH/Disney employees that are involved with the pins. They coordinate the releases and the events, etc. And the rest of the folks, that man the store and serve the ice cream, handle the register, etc, are Ghirardelli employees.

I'm betting folks like @pincrazy and @timeerkat would know for sure.

So, here's "fun" news. The casino that I worked at just closed its doors Wednesday afternoon. All employees are being "furloughed". But the notice they were given reads as a termination notice (words like "severance pay" and "final paycheck" and having to turn in their badges - I've never been through one, so maybe that's common.) But I have a whole slew of freinds who are out of jobs. And while I feel horrible for them, I'm so very grateful that I have my current job. I would be super stressed out not knowing what was happening with my job situation. Hoping for the best for them.

I think some employers are doing things that will qualify employees for unemployment benefits. Otherwise, some folks will simply have no income for who knows how long. It's going to be tough (though not impossible, depending on what you're looking for and where you are) to find another job in current circumstances, so perhaps they used the term "furlough" to imply to the staff that they'll be rehired when the casino reopens. Like, go be unemployed now cuz we have no choice, but we'll take you back as soon as we can.

But yeah ... Thank goodness that lengthy new job process paid off for you when it did!!!

I was deterred by the price when it released (even on Amazon). But now that I've joined the library, I'll try to check it out once the branches reopen.

So, the governor of our state (California) has issued "stay at home" orders, except for essential employees. Our office is considered essential but we can telecommute for part of the week. So that's what I'm doing....
